I'd actually like to praise a member of London Midland's staff, a guard who was the complete opposite of the usual invisible guard we get on the WCML services and did a great job with communicating with passengers. Is there a way to contact them about this, and will they even care if so?

Email or write to Customer Relations, I am sure they will pass it on.

Does positive feedback get passed on? I contacted SWT in similar circumstances a couple of months ago and received a nice reply saying that my feedback would be given to the relevant manager - just wondering whether there's an internal mechanism for making sure that it gets back to the individual concerned.

Certainly gets back to us in my part of the world and is always very gratefully received

It does at my TOC - I've known drivers be informed of positive tweets about their PA announcements during disruption.

I'm unsure of the exact mechanism. I imagine it would be relatively easy for the social media team to identify the train concerned, and rostering could then identify the relevant driver/guard.

It's worth pointing out that even a quick "thank you" to staff members can make all the difference to their working day.

The team compile a list at the end of each day and forward them on, so yes, they do get passed on. Normally comes with a card through the internal recognition system from the manager!

LM are pretty good at passing it through to be fair or my managers certainly are anyway. Often get letters in our pigeon holes from the Managers with the comments on and/or a word from the managers. We even get taken for awards dinners etc if you get enough!

Thanks for this, I was just wondering whether it'd get to them or not, or if it'd be lost somewhere in LM HQ.

I don't have a ****ter account, so I'll just e-mail the address. Thanks for this.

If anyone is curious, not only did the guard actually turn up and walk through the train checking tickets, (a rarity for LM, and the only guard I saw on the 4 trains I took yesterday), but she made a very comprehensive announcement at Northampton, letting people know the train was going to be there for 15 minutes, and since this was about lunchtime, that they could go into the station and get something from the W H Smith or Starbucks, which is something I never thought about but actually really thoughtful, especially since of course LM trains don't have any trolley service.

Of course, it was my stop, so it wasn't useful to me as such, but I thought it was really good service regardless.

Very rarely do staff in the company i am employed by, although i got a certificate of praise albeit after i had forgotten what i was supposed to have done as it was 10 months later.

I also think that companies that dont value certain grades like guards will not pass on positive feedback as it would fly in the face of what they are doing in phasing out the grade.

It would appear that if i was to take on board what i read on here about railway staff, a vast majority of them shouldn't be employed in the industry. Numerous threads bore this out.
