I would be hard pressed to think of another that didn't even have a permit to travel machine.
Bedworth has no machines or permit to travel machines. You have to buy from the guard. also last time I used South Wigston that had no machines or permit to travel machines.
Annoyingly enough, South West Trains have also removed all of the Permit to Travel (PTT) machines from the stations that I've used over the past few years.
Although I'm fully aware that QuickFare machines accept cards and can give change, there are still times when use of one is not convenient or possible. Sometimes - Even though I give myself ample time to get there - I run into unavoidable delays en-route to the station, arriving there at the same time as my train.
Likewise, there have been occasions when I've arrived at a station 5-10 minutes before departure, but the queue for the ticket machine has been horrendous and - Even though I've queued - I've still had to break rank and request permission to buy from the Guard insted. :?
Although QuickFare machines are handy when they're available
and ye have a good 3-5 minutes available to process thy purchase, the operating system used upon them (Windows XP Embedded, I believe) is far too slow and cumbersome for purchasing tickets at the last minute. Furthermore, the touch-screens on those machines aren't the best in the World, and - Even though I'm skilled in using touch-screen terminals - I still find that I get a fair amount of incorrect input on SWTs machines due to inprecise adjustment.
If we still had PTT machines at SWT stations, it'd simply be a case of slipping a £1.00 coin into my pocket before setting off for the station, stuffing it into the PTT machine upon arrival, and hitting [Print]...A process that takes no more than five seconds, and is a much better option when time is limited!
