The original date was May. However, for all we know it is open, but currently not excepting trains for obvious reasons. Remember, it is just not soley to repaint the Pendolino's, it is also a training facility, hence taking on upto 60 apprentices too (understand September start for them?). Currently, Newstead Road Bridge still has security access by the roundabout so preventing access to the public road. I would assume when Depot fully operational that would be gone.
Thanks Doug

The physical connection to the existing Ditton Sidings is due to go in over this weekend.

Went past the new facility this afternoon on way back from the DEMU Showcase at Burton Upon Trent. The connection into Ditton sidings seems to have been made and several masts have been erected.

Looking at those images, I would say they are. By the way, it is "Alstom", there is no "h" in the name - yes there use to be but not now.
Yes Doug we are all guilty of errors in spelling at times. Even you in your reply failed to put the "d" on the end of use!

Yes, correct but I suspect you may of not been aware that Alstom dropped the "h" , that was the reason for letting you (& others) aware of it. I had previously spelt it with a "h' too. (So not a spelling lesson as you were thinking) :(

Are the masts on the Alsthom site?

Yes, they are. They go right up to the doors where there is a large final portal. Not yet clear if the wires will continue into the workshop. At least one mast appears to have the arms fitted. Not sure if it was wired in.

Changing tack will ALSTOM require a shunting loco on site?

I did ponder this question myself and looking at the large OHLE portal positioned immediately in front of the doors to the facility I think it is likely that the wires will be terminated at that point, rather than continuing into the building, meaning that a shunter would be needed. The only other possibility might be a tractor and/or winching system of some sort, a bit like they use at the Bombardier factory at Derby.

Info I had which was well over 6 months ago, as far as I am aware the answer was yes but no firm decision had been made so a possibility there could one of those 4 wheel box type shunters instead. As like the Edge Hill facility, there will not be any wires inside the shed. HTH.

Edge Hill IS wired inside.

The only part that isnt wired is the pit, which is never used.

They are expecting to use a shunt engine to enable moving the split coaches around.

The Halebank facility was opened today with Pendolino 390104 on site.
Pendo 390104 due back at Edge Hill later today, arrived at Widnes on 28th. I must admit this week parking has been at a premium in and around the site including over the railway bridge and Newstead Road, so something was up. I've notice some road laying vehicles around - may they are laying the road into the depot along with car parking?

The Halebank facility was opened today with Pendolino 390104 on site.

The opening of the depot was on the BBC North West News. When asked about the possibility of train building at the site the manager stated that if the company won a contract for new tube trains for London they would be built at Widnes.
