6 Men formally CHARGED by the CPS! They are:

http://www.cps.gov.uk/news/latest_news/hillsborough-charging-decisions/
Charges have been authorised against:

  • David Duckenfield, who was the Match Commander for South Yorkshire Police on the day of the disaster
  • Graham Henry Mackrell, who was Sheffield Wednesday Football Club's company secretary and safety officer at the time of the disaster in 1989
  • Peter Metcalf, the solicitor acting for the South Yorkshire Police during the Taylor Inquiry and the first inquests
  • Former Chief Superintendent Donald Denton of South Yorkshire Police
  • Former Detective Chief Inspector Alan Foster of South Yorkshire Police
  • Norman Bettison, a former officer with South Yorkshire Police and subsequently Chief Constable of Merseyside and West Yorkshire Police

The decisions have also this morning been relayed to other interested parties, including the defendants and other suspects who were referred to the CPS by Operation Resolve and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Duckenfield charged with 95 counts of Manslaughter - he will be in court separately with other heading to the dock in August

Couldn't they have found something to charge Kelvin Mackenzie with, like being a despicable human being?

Better to just force him to sign on along with all the people he spent decades vilifying... <D

Hopefully nobody on the prosecution side screws up accidentally-on-purpose.

Excellent news. The families have conducted themselves with such dignity but determination in the face of such adversity, that after getting the truth, it is right that they get a chance of justice.

Sadly he has enough that even if he was summarily dismissed with no golden handshake (one can only dream of this - if he was to go, and that's sadly a big if, Murdoch would pay him off handsomely) he would not ever need to work again or claim anything from the state.

He no longer works for Mr Murdoch. Left around four weeks a go I think.

Do you know why, and forgive my ignorance 'JFT'?
Because he died 4 years later (although he never regained consciousness) - at the time a death could not be attributed to an event that was more than a year and a day previously (this is no longer the case).

'JFT96' - Justice For The 96.

Because the 96th death came too long after the event for anyone to be charged with causing that death.
I think its still JFT96, as there will be a charge, though only for 95 counts. Does it matter 95/96, not meaning any offence in saying that at those level will one more death make a difference to the sentence, I know of course it makes a difference emotionally, but...

I wonder what his severance package was...?

Now that would be interesting to know.

He'll be back soon enough. He's too closely linked to Murdoch to be out in the cold too long. He was defended for what he said about so many different people. It actually surprised me that he went for the comments he made about Ross Barkley, as for the first time ever I don't actually think he was being racist then, just nasty.
