I have spent quite a while trying to work out how to get from Granton Road to the Edinburgh, Leith and Newhaven Railway. Having failed to see a connection (other than via The Leith New Lines and a double reversal in the Leith docks) on OS maps between the opening and closure of these lines, I cheated and looked to see what we did last time. I see that we went via a chord to

Powderhall

So that's what I have repeated, but where was it?

Joppa (1st station) I put this one forward tentatively - it is shown on the 1857 OS map, about 400m north of the site of the current Brunstane station.

That would be fine normally, but that is not the line that we are currently using, which is the Edinburgh Suburban Railway.

The Joppa station I am referring to was on the section of line between Portobello East Junction and Niddrie North Junction, a little to the north of where Brunstane station now is. So unless I have gone completely off-piste, the ES&SJR used this line. (Not sure why Brunstane isn't shown on the Wikipedia entry - I think it should be)

I have examined both the 1891 and 1905 working timetables for this line and the ES & SJR do not appear to have used the route that you say.

Another tentative suggestion Slateford (1st) - shown on the 1855 map about 350m west of the current station.

A referral to page 213 on Butt 1995 gives an opening date of January 1853 for the currently open Slateford station.

Have you both opening and closing dates for the Slateford (1st) station that you make reference to above.
