The LOR predates me (both because it closed before I was born, and because I've only been in Liverpool for 20 years), but I can identify a few typoes:

- Merseyrail 'Oriell Park': should be Orrell Park
- LOR 'Brockleband Dock': should be Brocklebank Dock
- LOR 'Princes Street': should be Princes Dock

And it may or may not be an issue that parts of south central Liverpool are described as the Ropewalks, the Georgian Quarter and the Baltic Triangle. These terms are all recent (21st Cerntury) and not contemporary with the LOR.

... and I can identify one: "typoes", should be typos.

One potato, two ???
One tomato, two ???
One tornado, two ???

OK, at a quick glance the internet (or at least Webster's) doesn't agree with me, but it's possible you can see where I'm coming from.

Thanks! Will edit that soon. Do you know what these neighbourhoods (Ropewalks, Georgian Quarter, Baltic Triangle) were called in the LOR time?

Rather tentatively, I would say:

Ropewalks: I am not sure that it actually had a name. I'm happy to be corrected by those with more knowledge.

Georgian Quarter: part of Toxteth*

Baltic Triangle: I think (but again am more than happy to be corrected) that this was just part of the South Docks.

*Toxteth is actually quite big. Identifying the part of Toxteth near the cathedral as the 'Georgian Quarter' is partly a matter of geography (it's not a great deal of help looking for Gambier Terrace if you're standing in Lodge Lane - they're both in Toxteth but about a mile and a half apart) but also a matter of the people in the nice Georgian houses of the Cathedral Quarter not wanting to be associated with the rougher areas of Toxteth which rioted in 1981 and on a number of occasions since.

[OT]There isn't any real answer to the plural of 'typo', but when I am confronted with an informal abbreviation, I refer to the full version and apply those rules, e.g. typographical errors ~= typos. It usually works, - maybe with an apostrophe added - so it would be typo's.[/OT]

No. No apostrophe. Never an apostrophe in there - it's just confusing.

I'm not from Liverpool, and the LOR predates me by quite a few years, more's the pity - I would liked to have seen and travelled on it!

However, it occurs to me that you might wish to contact the Museum of Liverpool and ask them for help. They have a large scale model of the LOR on display, together with the only (I think) surviving carriage. Here's a link to their web site: http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/mol/ and to the pages dealing with the LOR Gallery: http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/mol/visit/galleries/overhead/index.aspx

Best wishes!

There is a very good book called "Seventeen stations to Dingle" (ISBN O 905466 54 3 from 1982) which happens to have a map of the line coutesy of the Railway Magazine. There are other books.

It would however be even better to use say an OS map extract from say 1950 as it gives credibility.
