Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anybody else has bought those practice cd's for the computer assessments and if they are any good/worth buying.

The cd's for the vigilance and perception tests with the flashing grey square and the pictures of traffic scenes.

Many thanks.

I can't say for anyone else but I didn't buy any of these.
I didn't practice anything for the computer tests, I put all my time and effort into the mmi interview.

The grey square you don't need to practice for unless you fancy sitting at your computer screen for half an hour. The traffic scenes just concentrate on what you did see and don't guess. The 2 joysticks test as many people say if you play computer games you will be fine, if like me you don't, just try to stay relaxed. I had quite a few buzzers on each go but it didn't worry me.

As everyone states just relax and keep calm and everything will come together.

Good luck.

Thanks for your input on that, I have my stage 2 assessment day on the 3/7 with mmi.

I read a post somewhere where someone said they did the 6 questions with GTR and posted them, just wondering if they are the same standard ones.

these ones?

1) Give an Example of where you gave good service whilst experiencing difficulty
2) Give an example of where you had to persevere whilst learning
3) Give an example where it was important that you did not make a mistake
4) Give an example where you had to deal with an emergency or a situation under pressure
5) Give an example of a situation where you had to follow rules and procedures
6) Give an example of a role you have done which is similar to a Driver.

Utterly ridiculous system of interviewing people! The S.T.A.R system why the hell does every employer have to follow it as though there is no way of interviewing someone for a job.

I dont think that is it the mmi is a structured interview its not a job interview its part of the assessments and is as far as I can tell designed to see if you can do things safely while still giving the best customer service without getting in a flap, the dmi or driver manager interview is specific to a train operating company. Also the mmi is also on the two strikes list I believe

Those that questions above are similar to the MMI questions you will get. The STAR method is a great way of answering the questions as well and should see you sail through with relative ease.

Don't try and second guess what questions you will be asked for the mmi.
If you do, you'll end up in a right mess if the examples you have pre-thought do not come up!
Not every mmi is the same, the same questions may not be asked to everyone. Every mmi question example on this and other forums, should be taken as a guide as to what you may get and not what you will get.

I've heard of the STAR method, am I a bit slow here?

The RSSB state that the process is "applied consistently to all candidates". Giving different candidates different questions does not consistently apply the process to all candidates as the process is clearly varied.

I disagree. I've not checked your source but it says consistent, not identical. They can ask different questions along broadly the same themes and still be consistent, which basically means all candidates get the same chance and they get to find out whether the candidate has the necessary skills and abilities. In any case, it's impossible for it to be identical as the different examples offered will lead to different questions and, I presume, the initial answers given will influence how the follow-up questions are posed.

I agree completely with this guy. The MMi isn't the same set of questions across all candidates otherwise someone would inevitably just post them somewhere like this forum, everyone would get wind of them and the whole process would be negated.

In your sequence of tests at the computer, you have a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and your responses on that are used to give the assessor an idea of what they should be asking you. The questions will be largely chosen from the same 'set' of possible questions (consistent approach) but they will not all be the same for every candidate.

Regarding the CD's, I did buy them and found them very useful. I then sold them on EBay for more than I paid for them so its a no brainer for me. You get very few chances at this so if there is anything at all that could possibly assist you, why wouldn't you try it?

Good luck.

The group bourdon is available and that is still used. What's the difference? Consistent is the same. Consistency is impossible if the questions are different. Remember the MMI is part of the psychometric testing it isn't carried out by the TOCS. It is the same in the same way that the Bourdon is the same, the two hand is the same etc etc. You're right though the SJT is used by OPC to probe candidates further in the MMI.

This point isn't relating to the OP though so apologies.

You're joking, right? :D

You can't see the difference between knowing you're going to do a GBT and knowing exactly what questions you will be asked in an interview designed to assess you psychologically?

You don't get a print out of the actual GBT you're going to do or you could familiarise yourself with the location of every group of 4 in each line just by doing it over and over again. No one doing a GBT could memorise and regurgitate it on here...a consistent approach does not mean the same everytime.

You said it yourself 'The RSSB state that the process is "applied consistently to all candidates"'...the key word there is process. Most job interviews I've ever had, exams, assessments etc. etc. followed a consistent process but certainly weren't the same.
