Whitby West Cliff Lift

Is this cliff lift currently operational? I can find lots of information about it closing temporarily in 2013 but nothing about whether it reopened.

It should be open again, I'm sure it was last year when I went down in July.

You realise that this is an ordinary building life in a shaft through the cliff, not a railway?

That caught me out the first time I went to Whitby.

Yes, thanks. It's just something a bit interesting. But yes, it would be even better if it was a funicular!

You could always go up the coast to Saltburn for a funicular experience.
