There was an article in Rail Engineer a couple of months ago describing the use of drones in things like viaduct examination etc.

Drones were certainly used 'after the fact' in the case of the Feb. 2017 'Liverpool Lime Street' wall collapse.

Whether, or not, they had been used there previously I am not sure.

Drones were used during the various cliff face problems near Dawlish IIRC. Further along from the much more visible seawall collapse.

Answering the orginal poster - yes aware and yes know of some usage in my area for surveying

There use seems to be much more extensive now. I know not related to the railways but Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service make use of drones at larger incidents. I am sure there are others who do the same.

CaRT have used them to survey various aqueducts.
South Wales and Dyfed Powys Police use them for scanning areas of moorland, often using a thermal camera in searches for lost people, and for tracking illegal off-road activity.

Have heard of this by landowners sick of police inaction over gypsies riding trailbikes or quads illegally over their land. Invariably leads to a bit of fishing wire being erected to deal with the same police inaction.

I believe the police used a drone to monitor the recent event on the Welwyn viaduct. I have to say that I didn't even realise the police deployed these themselves (makes sense though).

I can now picture high-speed drone chases when going after people illegally flying them! One for a future Sky 1 reality series..
