Best Preserved Non Staffed Station

Hopefully the title is self explanatory. My favorite is Garsdale; apart from the awnings nothing has changed since the end of steam.

I like Garsdale, but for a well kept unstaffed station, I think you'd be hard put to better Knaresborough.

Thanks Rob Next time you're up that way alight at Garsdale and try the Moorcock pub which is a few minutes walk in the direction of Hawes.

Ah, I have taken that wonderfully secluded walk and visited the Moorcock Inn for a pint and some ghostly tales on a few occasions

The signal box at Garsdale was altered sometime after 1979 by new windows being fitted, getting rid of the typical original Midland Railway windows with the fillets in the upper corners. Some time after the windows were renewed a toilet seems to have been added on, so there have been some changes!

The toilet is a much more recent addition I think because for several years the signal box had been switched out except for diversions. Nevertheless many thanks for the correction; especially the windows!

Yes, it tended to be a bit erratic, particularly on non-weekends. They've recently had a change in management though, so the service might be more predictable.

Yes, it tended to be a bit erratic, particularly on non-weekends. They've recently had a change in management though, so the service might be more predictable.

Me and my partner stayed in one of the cottages next to the station, needless to say she wasn't too impressed to find it closed!

Indeed, Maxwell Park is like a little slice of Gleneagles in the South Side of Glasgow.

I would nominate Brockholes, but all the heritage stuff is either on the disused platform or in neighbouring gardens- the station itself is best described as "functional"...

Helsby and also Frodsham Station (North Cheshire) deserved a mention, especially the former as complete with signal box and well kepted gardens.

Hadlow Road. Closed to passengers in 1956 but beautifully preserved by the Friends of Hadlow Road Station.

Laurencekirk is also worth a mention - although whether it'd count is up for debate.
