Good breakfast near Manchester Piccadilly?

Hi, not sure if this is the right section so mods feel free to move it if necessary.

Could anyone recommend a good place for a breakfast near (or in) Manchester Piccadilly station? Something perhaps a step up from a greasy spoon cafe... prefer places that aren't big chain restaurants but feel free to recommend if it's good.

Maybe 6 people eating, on a Saturday, early-ish (for a Sat at least) - maybe 8 to 9am. This is before a train out then a big walk.

Takk - although not sure exactly how early it opens so you'd have to check. A bit further away North Tea Power is also very good.

Malmaison is on the doorstep, though may not be cheap. You may be able to negotiate for a party of 6.

If you're thinking Antonio's (very much a greasy spoon, but open pretty much 24/7), that's been a Little Waitrose for a couple of years.

You don't have to be a guest to dine, have done it a couple of times in the past.

£8.95 all you can eat.

Is that true of all Premier Inns? I do like a good buffet breakfast, but the only way to obtain one does tend to involve staying in a hotel.

I don't think they mind at Premier Inn, depending on the exact layout of the place. When I have stayed at one before I paid for the breakfast in the morning and as far as the staff know I could have come from my room or could have come straight off the street!

I'm a fan of Koffee Pot in the Northern Quarter. Possibly a bit greasy spoon though but it's a damn good greasy spoon.

Drives me to drink - usually at quite reasonable prices !

From the station front, cross the fancy footbridge and walk down the slope past TFGM Towers. Keep following the tram lines until you get to Portland Street, then turn left and go one block west to La Baguette. This is a hole-in-the-wall operation on the corner of the Britannia Hotel. Sandwiches and toasties made to order. its about a 10 minute walk (max) from Piccadilly and a whole 2 from Piccadilly Gardens.

My go-to place for brekkie is always Wetherspoon if there is one conveniently placed. This is probably the country's best value; ingredients are of good quality; choice is good and prices are pretty much unbeatable.

I do a lot of hotel stays through my job and with the exception of chains where breakfast is included for all (such as a Hampton Inn or a Holiday Inn Express), I can't think of any where they don't accept external guests. Have cash, will dine

That's pretty much how they look at it tbh.

I've never been refused service at a Premier Inn yet when not staying.

I was in the one along from Piccadilly a week past Monday and it was no problem and was in the one at the back of Waverley the day before - again no issues.

The one opposite Euston is fine and will also serve you dinner if you are on a late departure (such as the sleeper) which is handy.

We also use the one on Princes St in Edinburgh regularly if we are up town first thing, they even have a notice on the door down on the street level saying that breakfast is available for non-res.

They are handy as well if you have kids with you as you get two kids breakfast free for every paying adult.

Also they have takeaway cups so handy if you are heading for the train straight after as you can take a coffee with you.
