The most remote traffic lights in Britain

Whilst surfing Google, I came across this image.

It is an image of the traffic lights controlling a single track section of road leading to the Ardnamurchan Point Lighthouse. This is further west than Land's End but much less famous. Indeed, it is 22 miles further west. I think there are a set of pedestrian lights in Fort William but these are at least 60 miles away!

Are there any more lonelier traffic lights?

I've always thought the random traffic lights on the A71 at Breich were remote and always feel completely out-of-place - on a straight NSL road with nothing nearby (aside from the busy Breich railway station, of course!).

Cromdale could be up there, though. On the A95, there's a set of traffic lights for a narrow bridge (and a small lane off to one side). Pretty sure there's no other traffic lights on that road between Aviemore and Elgin, with the exception of a crossing for cows (I can't remember exactly where).

But I think you'll be hard pressed to beat Ardnamurchan!

When we visited in 2014 the same "roadwork (type) lights" were there - not that there were many cars using the road!! We took the CalMac ferry from Mull.

Not remote by any means but the most bizarre traffic lights I've seen are these in Bath

They're not pelican crossings, nor are they junction controlled with the road immediately on the right of the second signal and last time I used them, they weren't timed to the next ones on the following junction. Just seem to go red at random intervals!

The most rural ones near to me are probably these ones at Hawkeridge (Between Trowbridge and Westbury). Probably a little bit of overkill too bearing in mind how quiet the junction is. I guess they're there to aid people using the bus stop further down?

There are random traffic lights in Lanzarote. As you drive up to certain villages the aspect goes from flashing amber to red, and (I believe, from driving through then quite a few times) only releases back to amber when you drop below a certain speed. It's basically a speed reducing system. There is no junction or hazard being controlled.

Looks like they are positioned to give priority to vehicles arriving on the bus lane which ends at that point. We have some similar sets in Milton Keynes - if only we had the bus services to justify them!

Common in Portugal too. You speed, you stop!!

These are quite common in rural Spain, although I think they go green not amber.

Formentera (the island just off Ibiza) is a busy little place, but I don't think there's one traffic light on the whole island! If anyone knows different...

The county of Leitrim in Ireland only got its first* set of traffic lights in 2003 in the county town of Carrick-On-Shannon (which were for pedestrian control rather than traffic management) and even they were removed a few years later.
I believe a set were installed late last year in Manorhamilton?

*Not strictly accurate - there had been lights installed previously, but on the river...

Theres some pedestrian ones in Shetlamd and a controlled crossing of the airport runway which crosses the main road!

There are NO lights in Orkney
