What are these posts and wires between the lines for?

It's been a while since my last visit to Elgin and these have appeared between the lines at the station. There is a temporary speed restriction just after the station when travelling to Inverness but I've no idea if the two are related.

They are very likely signalling cables. Noticing the new LED signal and the nice clean post and cables I bet there is one never used shunting semaphone disc that has been left in because of paperwork and has therefore needed brand new kit put in.

My thought was that they might be to act as a deterrent to those who might try to cross the tracks between the platforms, but I'm not sure that it is actually high enough for that

There are semaphore signals heading towards Forres, my photo faces Keith. The LED signal is relatively new, it replaced a semaphore signal around the same time they replaced the footbridge. I'm guessing they moved the signal and then had the excuse to enter the 21st century in that direction!

These are the signal wires for EL3 and EL5 signals (beyond the road bridge at the east end) which are the Down Main and Down loop signals. The wires were relocated away from the platform sides due to the upcoming platform lengthening works. At present only the two distant signals plus EL15 are colour light, all others are semaphores but will be removed in October when the control of Nairn, Forres and Elgin moves to Inverness SC.
The box will be demolished immediately as the loop is also being extended in both directions and the road crossing will become an Obstacle Detector type. The Tyers token machines will also disappear from the line- currently two sections (Nairn- Forres and Forres- Elgin)

I had heard that this style of Pulley wire was becoming hard to source.
Is there no problem or is there a suitable alternative?

They were definitely there when the Semaphores were in place, and that's what I thought they were then, so the above all seems to fit.

I've not been East for a couple of weeks now. Seem to be on a steady stream of Perth runs! I think the points at the west end of Elgin are now in place (adjacent to EL17 signal) and secured till commissioning.
Really think the improvements will make a big difference once completed in October. Certainly going to speed up the timetable.

Elgin level crossing is now planned to become a CCTV crossing, not OD.

The wire is available, but the quality has dropped considerably. Made in China...

Indeed, you are correct. I will go stand in the corner.

Though, in my defence, in pre-electricity days you had a single wire, several of which were twisted together into a multi-strand cable, several cables would be twisted together into a rope.
