Quesion about a University location

Earlier in the year, I tried to find a friend who studies in Anglia Ruskin University, and I took a train to Peterborough. But She said Anglia Ruskin is in Cambridge. May I ask where is Anglia Ruskin University Really are? It seems daft but I am quite confused.:roll:

They have campuses in Peterborough, Cambridge and Chelmsford. It is worth clarifying which campus you are visiting before setting of.

Thank you for answering my question. Why I have this mix up is when I first travel on the East Coast Mainline and the train is at Peterborough I notice a sign say Anglia Ruskin University is there. So I just assume the Uni is at that city. I never realised this Uni campus is so spread out around the county. Most Uni in UK is not so spread out around few cities and this caused my confusion. But thanks anyway for the kind assistance.

The University of the West of Scotland has campuses in Hamilton, Ayr, Paisley and Dumfries.
The University of Glasgow has campuses in Glasgow West End, South Glasgow University Hospital, Garscube and Singapore.
Prifysgol Glyndŵr has campuses in Wrecsam, Llaneurgain and Llanelwy
Prifysgol Bangor has campuses in Bangor and Wrecsam.

Almost all universities actually have multiple campuses, even if they are all in the same town or city, but as we've demonstrated it is not at all uncommon to see universities spread across multiple locations.

The lesson here - know your destination before you depart.

It's becoming an necessary evil unfortunately. Higher education represents one of the UK's largest exports. Paradoxically, in this new and bold era of 'Global Britain' going out into the world as 'a great exporting nation' and 'bastion of free trade', the government has seen fit to limit international students, thus actively reducing our exports in this key area. In order to remain financially viable universities have to go to the students, as the students are increasingly not being allowed to come to us.

In General, if my Friend told me he/she studies in University of Coventry, I would generally believe he/she is living in Coventry or locations around it i.e Birmingham, or Loughborough for instance. If a student has never heard the place of Scarborough, it is reasonable that the he/she will think Scarborough is close the Coventry but in fact is not.

In general, yes, though Universities being spread out is becoming increasingly common these days. In any case it is unwise to attempt to visit someone without establishing where you are meeting them first.

The Campus sits partly with the bounday of the City of Coventry, and partly within Warwickshire. Most of central campus and its facilities fall into the Coventry side. It's about 3 miles or so from Coventry city centre (the main bus route is a bit misleading as it takes a bit of a meandering route to serve the student housing around Earlsdon).

Warwick is, officially, named after Warwick*shire* into which it falls, not the town of Warwick some 10 miles away.

For most of my time there, there wasn't even a direct bus between Warwick and its supposed university! Most off-campus student population was Earlsdon or south Leamington Spa.

Yeah, it did I believe originate in Edge Hill (the station) and later move to a new campus in Ormskirk.

Yep. Moved to L39 during WW2 and never went back... When it gained full university status in the early 2000s there was talk of it becoming "West Lancashire University" but Edge Hill already had a reputation for teacher training and didn't want to lose that prestige.
