Reported elsewhere that the first class 180 goes off lease this weekend.
Does that mean the class 180 diagrams on the "frequently requested..." topic are no-longer valid? I'm planning to take a ride on the Cotswolds line soon (by the end of May) and want to avoid the 166s and 165s.

Also, can somebody explain to me why some London-Worcester/Malvern trains are marked with a H but no Larder/Cafe symbol on the timetable? I thought H means an IC125 is booked but all GW sets have at least a micro-buffet, or is it closed on those service?

It's a shame the 180s are going. I wonder how they're going to fill in their diagrams.

They should still be valid up till the timetable change in May (21st). Saying that, some of the work will be, according to the latest STP amendments, covered by a 166.

The following diagrams marked in red on the 'frequently requested thread are diagrammed for a 166:

1K23 0609 Newbury - Paddington
1D15 0721 Paddington - Oxford
1P27 0721 Oxford - Paddington
1D22 1050 Paddington - Oxford
1P45 1301 Oxford - Paddington
1P89 2311 Oxford - Paddington

Come the May timetable change, there will only be 3 180 diagrams, it looks like all Cotswold trips, no Newbury workings.

As noted above, the 180 diagram that is ending (and was actually supposed to have done so back in January) is the one that operates the early trip from Newbury into Paddington, then shuttles between Paddington and Oxford the rest of the day on the services highlighted in red on the GWR diagrams list. All the three 180 diagrams that cover duties up the Cotswold Line will continue until mid-December or Christmas-time, depending on how the introduction of 800s progresses.

If you are referring to the last couple of weekday and Saturday HSTs from Worcester and Hereford back into London, there are two reasons why there is no catering.

The buffet staff are based at Worcester (and finish their shifts when the two HSTs reach Worcester on their way out to Malvern and Hereford earlier in the evening) and the number of passengers on both those late-night trains back to London is minimal, so it's just not worth opening the buffet.

They are at PM with the damaged one, which has returned from Brodies, having some attention before being re-attached and put back in service.

Just as you thought it was safe etc etc........

Like the proverbial bad penny 150002 has found its way back to Reading

166208 has migrated westwards to St Phillips Marsh, initially for C4 overhaul work but methinks it will stay.

That meant only one thing........:cry::cry::cry::cry:

150002 was doing Portsmouth Harbour - Cardiff Central runs last time I saw it on Saturday. Anyone know why it's gone back to Reading?

To balance our books.

It's a swap with 166208 which has gone to St Phillips Marsh (as mentioned above).

Except it will be rare, due to the 002 spending most of its time in the depot, due to a fault here and there.

It was going so well for the PPM on the Reading to Basingstoke line :D

I was at Reading the other day, was two days after 150001 had that issue that shut down the Basingstoke line with it's doors, first at Mortimer, then again at Reading West. Caused havoc to the CrossCountry trains up in Oxford, many were over an hour late. I wasn't sure which unit it was, but I thought they wouldn't have put it back into service so quickly after creating such a huge problem?

Why would you think that, it may have been a quick fix (and usually is). Just because a unit sitting down somewhere creates large delays doesn't necessarily equate to a major problem.

Unit comes on Depot as a failure and essentially the following happens:

A: No fault found - either there isn't a fault (at least not with the train ;)) or it doesn't manifest itself on or can be recreated on Depot. Everything in spec = Back into traffic.

B: Fault found: item replaced / adjusted / hit with big hammer / sworn at
Everything in spec = Back into traffic.

C: Fault found: item replaced / adjusted, still doesn't work, not in spec = unit stopped for further attention / investigation.

I'm guessing the 150 was either a or b!

Thanks, I don't think any of my options included the 'red diagram' so I should be ok with the black ones remaining as 180s.

Didn't notice there were some with no catering shown at all; the ones I was looking at are marked with a H but have a trolley symbol rather than the tea/coffee mug that denotes ExpressCafe/Larder. In particular, the ones I was looking at are the 11:20 PAD to Great Malvern and 14:25 Great Malvern return (M-F workings), but the 15:49 PAD - Moreton-in-Marsh and 20:22 PAD to Great Malvern are also marked with a trolley rather than a buffet.

I was going to quote both posts but it'd make this one huge but...

Can I guess it as tripped MCBs and or Fuses? I've had that happen to me before with 001 - made for an interesting return journey with everyone for Bramley having to exit via the crew doors, before the driver, guard and I started to fault find for it.

Equally, out of curiosity - was that last Wednesday? I was working next to the line all day, saw it in the morning but was subbed by a 165 later on. The next day 001 seemed fine, it was the toiletless Turbo worth avoiding!

May Day (belated) livery update for you's.

LOCOS
Class 43 powercars:
093-New GWR livery. Unlike the first 4 green PCs, numbers are beneath the cab and the GWR logo is not cast. Modded for power doors (I think). Still at Donny IIRC.

In traffic today (2 May); it may have been earlier too but I can't confirm that.

When did 158951 get done and return to traffic? Must have missed that.

Was seen with it's nose poking out of Barton Hill last week so can only have been very recently. Have you actually seen it in traffic or are you just going by the updated livery list posted today ?

The update list above. Shouldn't be long until I see it though.
