I had an 8 car train virtually to myself on the way home from Waterloo last night 24th April thanks to a service meltdown combined with the screens not updating properly… what happened was I got first available train to Raynes Park then waited to see what turned up for Epsom.

Something with Dorking displayed on the front arrived a few minutes later at just after 20.00; the platform displays said “not stopping” but it did. Almost completely empty; quite a few people got off but apart from myself and one bloke who then got off at Motspur Park nobody got on although quite a few were waiting on the platform.

Platform screens said “not stopping” at every station yet it did.

Presumably it had been entered on the system as a class 5 working instead of a class 1 or 2, hence the displays not recognising it as a stopping service?

Could also have been it'd been entered into the system with a special calling pattern, but for whatever reason the crew never received the not to call order. It's far worse the opposite way round when you're advertised as calling somewhere but you've been told not to.

Still doesn't really explain the issue, despite the service alterations (unless pompeyfan is right). Do the SWT PISes use "one true system (even when it's wrong)" Darwin now?

So the puzzle here is where did it come from? The OP said it was carrying passengers on arrival. Presumably it didn't arrive the wrong way into Raynes Park because that would have been mentioned.

That I can't tell from looking at real time trains.

Clearly a diversion somehow.

Actually the OP didn't actually say that there were passengers on the train when it arrived - only afterwards if you read his post again!

Really? :?

"Almost completely empty; quite a few people got off but apart from myself and one bloke who then got off at Motspur Park nobody got on"

Could it be possible that the train started at Wimbledon instead of Raynes Park?

It would have come out of the reception roads at Wimbledon Park Depot. Quite standard during disruption for Waterloo bound trains to terminate at Wimbledon/Raynes Park/Surbiton and then run ECS in to the reception road at Wimbledon Park Depot, change ends and restart the booked service at one of the same stations. As the train had passengers on board I'm guessing it actually started at Wimbledon rather than Raynes Park.

That would have been the service booked to form the 19:24 Dorking. The train to form that one from Chessington did run, albeit around an hour late. The timings would work for it to have run ECS Chessington to Wimbledon Park Depot Reception Road, then back out to Wimbledon to form the Dorking train.

Sorry - I misread that part of the OP's post completely! D'oh!!

It would appear that this was the train in question:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/W34202/2017/04/24/advanced

It was the delayed 19:24 Waterloo-Dorking which only started at Raynes Park, due to a person hit by a train.

There were passengers on board when it arrived at Raynes Park who got off there.

Yes, it could have started at Wimbledon although the displays there had no service via Epsom showing until nearly half an hour later. So I'm guessing it wasn't announced at Wimbledon either.
