I have a mate who does alot of keep fit, he gets up about 4 am, does about 50 press ups, then goes out about 5 am for a five mile run, then does another 50 press ups and then goes to work. I think he does this about 3 times a week. He keeps threatening to "Volunteer" me to go with him one day....

Do any of you have a regular or not so regular regime.? Whenever I do press ups I sort of sag in the middle. I don't drive so I do a lot of walking (I am quite fast) and take public transport etc etc. I am not overweight and recently gave up sugar, I tend not to snack in between meals or have junk food. I am not a huge fruit eater but do have quite alot of vegetables, sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli etc.

Avoid chips, chocolate and (what was it) pizza! Also soda and especially Fanta (do not know you have it).

I do something similar although I'm not quite as enthusiastic as your mate, I get about 6am two or three times a week and go for a bike ride and go to the gym usually once a week. It sounds like you don't really need to exercise unless you particularly want to of course, I do to keep my waistline in check and it is worth the effort although I'll often have a fry up after, because I've deserved it, well that's what I tell myself!

Providing the weather is decent and it's a sensible time of day, I like to walk to and from work to get some exercise and also keep my car's running costs as low as possible.

Other than that, I like to go out for three or four mile walks every few days, although I'm planning to increase it to every other day because I've recently discovered after speaking to a dietitian I'm over a stone overweight and I'd like to get back down to the healthy weight I was about a year ago. I'm planning to buy a set of handheld weights to use at home as well, although I'm going to try and build up my fitness first.

At 58, prior to becoming a full-time carer of my parents (which means I now have little time off) I managed within the week to play a game of hockey, volleyball and badminton. I still try as much as possible. BMI has been absolutely fine, but lately been told by the doc I have low BP and high cholestral.
He told me to go on a Mediterranean diet - I already was
He told me to quit smoking - I've never had one in my life
He asked me how much alcohol intake I had - 9 pints/week (or red wine equivalent) well within his guidelines.
He told me to take more exercise (see above + tons of running up and down stairs all day).
Think, by then, he was stuck. I don't do sugar (much) or salt and basically I tick all the right boxes and more!
So I'm staying put and I've got one of those BP monitors and will have another cholestarol test in three months.
Apparently stockings (tights) are good for BP. Anyone lend me a pair??

NB - think it must be the stress of caring/Brexit/Lancs CCC. Stuff like running round in circles, gym stuff bores me rigid, I need to hit something. Although a gym full of pony-tailed women does have a certain appeal.

If you want to exercise but only have limited time could I suggest

Johnson and Johnson 7 Minute Workout

Its a free app , on the Play and App Stores , and has lots of workouts which are intensive , but short too ( 10-20 min incl cool down warm up )

It gives you lots of dynamic exercises , and you do each on for 10-15 sec , then it moves you on , with the on screen timer

I use and find it really good . I think it helped me going from 62kg in July 2016 , to 55kg Last Month

Its also not too much work , but it can be tough , even though they are short workouts , but they arent repetitive either

I do know in a way how you feel, I had the aged parent situation for several years, along with being made redundant from a job I had been at for for over twenty years and long term unemployment all at the same time. It is stressful. I had high blood pressure and cholesterol. I found that reducing my cheese intake helped as did going onto low fat spread rather than butter and the red topped totally skimmed milk helped. Good luck with everything.

Noooooooooooo! :)

On the general fitness thing (I know a few here are in MK) I do sessions with this lot...they are very good. Also do a bit of running and climbing and cycle (though as a mode of transport rather that a pursuit in itself).

I'm also about 3 stone overweight (realistically, by BMI it's more, but BMI isn't realistic as no rugby player would be less than overweight) but that's because I eat too much. To some extent you can split fitness from carrying a bit of extra weight, it's only like running with a heavy rucksack on in that sense.
