All being well I shall be going on the Torbay Express in a couple of months to Kingswear in Devon. It is about 8 years since I have been there. Is the pub/hotel at the end of the platform at Kingswear station still there. I can not find anything about it on the internet.

Thank You.

Just looking on the net it appears that it was the Royal Dart. It looks like it's been converted into flats as there are property listings for a flat in that building

That is indeed the case, although they are, naturally, 'stunning luxury apartments' rather than flats

;)

I had a pint in there in 1991. It wasn't very nice inside, and my lager wasn't the best. I think there's another pub up the road.

Ok, thanks for the info, shame the pub has closed, as many seem to be these days  I found it useful before when I did the Steam train from Bristol, as there was a huge queue for the Dartmouth ferry and the town was very busy. I used to go to the pub which did very good Sunday Roasts, then went over to Dartmouth a bit later. I think there is a pub a little way up the hill overlooking Kingswear station, but not sure if they do food on Sunday lunchtimes. I shall have another look online.

When there are long queues for the passenger ferry I often hop on to the adjacent vehicle ferry instead. Not included on an inclusive steam railway ticket to Dartmouth, so you do have to pay the foot passenger fare, but 60p to beat the queues is worth it. Once across the river I head to The Cherub.

The Royal Dart was always a down at heal place to grab a pint. If you're staying on the Kingswear side of the river, head up the hill to the Steam Packet Inn. There's also The Ship Inn on Higher St, next to the church. Both do food and TripAdvisor reviews (one of which for the Steam Packet Inn is mine) are in the main very favourable.

'Down at heel' is an apt description for how I felt about the place all those years ago!

Thank you, I just looked at the website for the Ship Inn and Steam Packet, the latter does look good, when I come out of Kingswear Station, do I go up the Hill for the Steam Packet, or downwards, passing what was the Royal Dart?

Good evening, I went on my trip yesterday on the Torbay Express from Bristol to Kingswear and had an excellent traditional Sunday Roast Beef Lunch in the Ship Inn at Kingswear, before going over to Dartmouth, it was very good indeed, price was fair and the food was very good indeed, as was the wine. The staff were great too, two of them called me young man, which at my age is a plus point indeed. :D
