There is one GWR service a day that does this, the 09:54 from Guildford is non-stop and takes 29 minutes. It runs fast in order to arrive at Reading in good time to form the 10:34 Reading - Gatwick.

GWR have also been known to miss stops between Guildford and Reading to recover the timetable after delays.

Also happens far too often between Guildford and Redhill, including Betchworth!

Penzance to Cardiff embracing the current Cardiff to Taunton services.

It is envisaged that there will only be one service a day each way between Penzance and Cardiff, the others will be either Cardiff to Weston SM/Taunton and Penzance to Plymouth/Exeter, no other through working, yet.

Edit-
Now hearing that there will be more through services, time will tell.

I drove 153318 today with its new green paint job. Was I the first to drive it in service? Was today its first day out?

That's a surprise! I thought that only the five Porterbrook 153s (153325, 329, 333, 361 and 369) were being retained by GWR. But obviously with 318 being painted in green livery it has a longer term future with GWR.

Was its performance any different?!

Nope, literally just had a lick of external paint, interior remains the same and no modifications....yet.

Word is they want to rip out the no.2 cabs and put them back as 155s so they can fit disabled toilets. How true that is i don't know

I've seen somewhere that, although it may be difficult to understand, it would cost to much to put them back.

You don't need to rip out the no.2 cabs to run them as 2 car units.
Leave the small cabs unused as in the 150/9's and disable uncoupling.
Remove toilet from 1 car and convert to seating, fit new toilet to other car.

That would be most sensible and cheaper. Just what I've heard that they want to press the undo button basically. I don't see why they don't get rid of the toilet altogether. Most of the time they are used to strengthen a service, and when 150/1s go all will be wall though coupling so toilet available on other service. And when solo running they only really work Westbury swindons

Up your neck of the woods maybe JCF, but they also work solo on the Looe Valley and Newquay lines, as well as occasional solo runs on Falmouth. Newquay is a fair old stretch for a train with no toilet!

153s also occasionally work alone and cover for failed 150 services around Bristol. I've been on one before that ran a service between Great Malvern and Westbury. The service before this runs Southampton to Great Malvern.

Ooh thanks for that update Phil. I saw it leaving Central on the 1100 and I noticed the coach formations were a little odd. Definitely wasn't 150938!

I take it it's that time again where 150925 and 150926 are going to be split, as with 150921/927, for perhaps another pair of 150s? Maybe 150923 and 150928?!

I take it it's that time again where 150925 and 150926 are going to be split, as with 150921/927, for perhaps another pair of 150s? Maybe 150923 and 150928?!

150926 has recently been split and gone away for Exams as 150126, the additional vehicle 57212 from it placed in 150216 so this has now become 150916
The current 3 Car formations are 001 (At Reading) 002, 916, 925 and 938. This could change any time as the damaged carriage of 150219 (Plymouth collision) has just arrived back at PM so 938 could be broken up and 2 Car 219 and 238 reformed.
