Advance fares Manchester [MAN] - London Euston [EUS] 29MAY

Hi everyone,

Was hoping someone could offer some insight into VTWC advance tickets. I have waited until the 12 week window to book 4 advance 1st tickets MAN-EUS on 29th May (arr EUS @ about 14:00) & advance tickets are still not on sale and we are almost at the 11 week mark. Do you think these tickets will get released or will it only be off peak singles? Have already booked the return in the seat sale so would prefer not to get an off peak as will be so much more expensive.

VTEC have just put Leeds [LDS] - London Kings Cross [KGX] advance tickets up so I could do that but it's a faff, would prefer to stick with Manchester.

Thank you for any advice or insight you may have!

They'll probably release them once Network Rail have confirmed any engineering work affecting the route. There may be a delay in confirming this.

Are you travelling from somewhere between Manchester & Leeds? A through fare may be available once the reservations are open.

Unlikely to be engineering on a Tuesday, but I guess they'd still wait for definitive confirmation.

29/05 is a bank holiday Monday so it is actually quite likely that there are engineering works somewhere along the line.

Not quite, they are actually available up to Wednesday 23 August, but with exceptions, which notably include Friday 26 through to Tuesday 30 May. (Am also trying to make plans for that weekend.)

The Trainline's free ticket alert service will send you an email when they go on sale (but don't buy with them because of the booking fee).

RTT for that date shows a special service up to about lunchtime then normal service thereafter.

Thank you for the hints and tips. I live near Colne so Skipton (then Leeds) is possible or Manchester/Preston on west coast line.

I'll sign up for the trainline alerts. Do you think that there will be advance tickets at some point on this day? Even if there is engineering work?

Latest info from Virgin has 29/5 opening 10th April, and 30/5 opening 11th April. That can change week to week though, so just keep an eye out.

VTEC have just put Leeds [LDS] - London Kings Cross [KGX] advance tickets up so I could do that but it's a faff, would prefer to stick with Manchester.

iirc SKI-KGX advances usually open up 24 weeks in advance as long as you book direct. I'm also in Colne (just!), and find lowest-tier advances are reasonably regularly available for bookings a good few weeks in the future.

It's a combination of HS2 and NR. There was work out in because HS2 were taking out Euston, HS2 pulled their block so the NR work had to be reviewed against the disruption it would cause alone Vs costs shared with HS2 disruption at Euston. All of this well out of what the timescale should have been. A shambles, to be short!

This is all very painful. I have been wanting a LON-Man ticket for sunday 28th May.

I have been watching Virgin WC as well as East Midlands to travel via Sheffield. No luck there either. Finally a couple of days ago I got tickets with LM to Crewe and Northern into Man-Pic. Yes it is a slower journey, but this suits me better than a higher speed flash past everything lineside.

See post #14 for the explanation. Not good, I agree.

Can't speak for Trenitalia, but DB will happily alter your journey at relatively short notice, and leave it to you to check. The advice to check is definitely worth heeding!
