Newcastle to Southampton - Flybe

Hi,

Does anyone know how busy the above flight is likely to be? I am booked on the 08:45 flight on 23/03 for a work trip and the just fly option has been chosen which means my seat is allocated when I check in unless I pay the additional £7.50 each way to choose my seat. I would prefer a window seat. Currently the seat plan would suggest the flight is not busy:

Does this mean I can choose my seat for free when I check in or is it automatically allocated? If its the latter check in at the airport is free so am I better off doing that and request a window seat assuming one is still free when I travel.

From my experience of other airlines if you don't book a seat you get what is allocated during online check in and have to pay if you want a particular seat.

As you say at airport you can ask nicely and get what you want if it is available.

Of course that screenshot doesnt actually say the flight isnt busy, what it actually says is that not many people have booked a seat

I've flown with them a few times NCL-SOU, the flight was never more than around half full, although i didn't fly peak times. The Dash 8 q400 on row 11 has a blanked window (protection from prop icing i think), but from any of the underwing seats you wont see much apart from engine cowling. Or possibly the undercarriage shearing off when you land.............

If you really would prefer a window seat then is best to pay for one. It's not a lot of money. Seats at the back have a good view on the Q400.

Which there's much less cause to do on Flymaybe due to the absence of the dreaded middle seat.

I fly this route a couple of times a year or so, and it really varies on how busy it is.

If you really want a window seat, I wouldn't leave it to chance. However sometimes it has been quiet, and I've been invited to move to a empty 2 seats if I was sat next to someone on an isle.

I had no issues with both flights. Got a window seat when checking in. An experience flying on the Q400's to say the least. Very choppy around Southampton both arriving and departing on the return flight.

Weird seeing the landing gear deploy and retract as well.
