Trying to split tickets from Tywyn to Winchester via Oxford and got recommended this option.

Is there an easement making it valid from Birmingham to Winchester direct via XC?

It's unclear what tickets you have but the easements list can be found here: http://iblocks-rg-publication.s3-website-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/easement_text.pdf

Is there a "Route: Shrewsbury & High Wycombe" routeing? If so I've not heard of it, or are you asking separately for "Route: Shrewsbury" for the first ticket and "Route: High Wycombe" for the second ticket?

It is difficult to envisage how you'd get from Tywyn to Winchester via both Oxford and High Wycombe, and I can't imagine that being a cheap option.

Change at Birmingham New Street, Oxford, London Marylebone and London Waterloo? Doesn't seem that difficult.

From TYWYN
To BASINGSTOKE
Route ✠VIA HIGH WYC&SHR
Given that this fare costs less than the fare to use cramped awful "Voyager" trains, and you could instead enjoy Class 68 haulage, I would simply travel via High Wycombe if it was me!

If you do travel on XC via Oxford in one direction, an excess fare of half the difference between the fare paid and the appropriate fare, could be charged. The full difference is £14 so the excess would be £7.

Tywyn to Basingstoke Off Peak Return

If you are at High Wycombe intending to travel to Basingstoke, the only rail route is via London.

I suppose you could buy a route High Wycombe ticket and finish short at Banbury. Is there such a thing as a route : Banbury ticket?

The original post mentioned going "from Birmingham to Winchester direct", but if travelling via Oxford it would be anything but direct to additionally travel via High Wycombe, and it is also not permitted.

Permitted routes between Machynlleth Group and London Group are on maps:

  • AW+LC
  • CA+GC
  • CA+RB+RG
  • EB
  • ES
None of these maps appear to permit travelling via both Oxford and High Wycombe.

Sorry to have to repost but I lost network on ATW Wifi

The journey concerned is as follows with a Senior Railcard

TUESDAY 28TH MARCH

Tywyn 0927
Wolverhampton 1211

Wolverhampton 1241
Winchester 1524

FRIDAY 31ST MARCH

Winchester 1133
Wolverhampton 1414

Wolverhampton 1443
Tywyn 1724

What I had suggested by Split Train Times was:

Tywyn-Basingstoke Super Off Peak Return via High Wyc & Shr

Basingstoke-Winchester Anytime Day Single x2

The proposed ticket is invalid on that itinerary between Banbury & Reading.

To make matters worse, if departing before 0930, and if caught using that ticket via Oxford, I believe the excess fare would be to the Anytime fare routed "Not via London", making a new ticket for the part that the ticket didn't cover, cheaper than an excess.

As it is much cheaper and more comfortable to travel via Marylebone, that is what I would do.

totally invalid route for the suggested trains/tickets. You must have a valid ticket for the trains your on. You can't use xC between Wolves and Basingstoke. You must change at Banbury and go via London.

The £67.40 fare for the off peak fare from Tywyn to Winchester with senior is as good as it gets. We're increasingly seeing people trying to split tickets where it's not the best option. Split ticketing is not a universal panacea to high or perceived high fares.
