Getting off at a station intended for picking up only

One morning on the Skipton - Kings Cross we had an announcement something like:

"We are about to call at Keighley to pick up passengers only. But if you are getting off, please take care as the platform may be slippery."

I've never spotted anyone getting off there.

Nothing to do with GTR - that practice would have stopped long ago in the early 90's when, in preparation for privatisation, Gatwick Express was set up as a 'shadow franchise', and the Network SouthCentral Train Operating Unit started to compete with GatEx for custom between Victoria and Gatwick.

It depends. In the case of the Mk3 Norwich services, they will have a considerably higher dwell time than an EMU, so if local passengers at Stratford are instead encouraged to use the frequent stopping services, the service could well be flowing more smoothly.

There's also the matter of the comfort of higher paying long distance passengers being affected by large local movements. See frequent discussions about Reading commuters for an example.

When meeting my wife off the London - Skipton service at Keighley I've been warned by rail staff that it's pick-up only. Monday to Friday, it arrives only 5 minutes after the previous train, but 23 before the next.

It may be rare, but ticket checks can happen around London Terminals. For example, I once had an onboard ticket check between Waterloo East and London Bridge!
