I know there has been mention about the 175's livery but having issues finding the thread about it.

Is there a reason why the 175's isn't being repainted into Arriva's latest livery as the current livery looks rather dated?

Plus will they remain in wales after the new franchise, considering there have been roomers about them being sent to Northern/EMT swapped with class 158's?

The 175s, much like their big brothers the 180s, are a bit of an anomaly due to being a fairly small fleet- and they had a rather troublesome introduction too. As for their future, nothing will be decided until the next Wales and Borders franchise. That's also likely the reason for not repainting (or revinyling) them.

Swapping for 158s would make sense in a way- a bit more flexibility for the Cambrian perhaps, though any extra 158s would need ETCS fitting first and there's no reason that the 175s couldn't have that equipment fitted- the difference being that the 158s are at least a known quantity on that front.

I could see the 175s being used to fulfil the requirements for Northern's "170 equivalent" vehicles, if they're not kept on by the Welsh franchise. The dedicated depot at Chester is an added complication which, if the units continue to be based there, means Northern would be the only viable option.

Surely the 22 Class 185s coming spare from TPE would be more relevant.

Kinda makes alot of sense now. If the 175's ever does goes to Northern It would be ideal if they were used on their so called Northern Connect Chester - Leeds since the depot is at Chester
