Does anyone have any photos of the 442's in storage at Ely or is it an inaccessible area?

You can see them quite easily from Queen Adelaide Way. I saw them a few weeks ago when I was up there for a rowing race. Sadly couldn't take any photos as I was too busy rowing!

So.. The big day arrives..!

I am correct in thinking that today will be the 442's final day in passenger service with GTR with 1F83 (18:23 LBG-EBN) being the very last PLANNED run?

:(

He means when it stops running. Have they got alternative stock to replace the working with? Or will commuters just have to shoe-horn themselves onto another service? ;)

No idea where you got that date from but it's very wrong.

Won't be for a few months yet.

Just seen this post on Rail Focus (with video):

66599 working 6Z25 Eastleigh Works to Eastleigh TRSMD via Eastleigh Yard heading for Eastleigh Yard with 442's 2405 & 2424 these units are heading for there new depot ready for the Alliance Rail - GNER & GNWR services later in the year.

Is this true or is it just speculation? I thought this was still awaiting various approvals last I heard?

Really?

I thought it had been discussed up thread several times that they are coming off lease earlier than expected now and the end of January being cited. It's down in the frequently requested diagrams thread as finished tomorrow (28/01/2017), so I assumed today was the last day in service..

Guess I assumed wrong...

See also Colin Marsden's photo site; 'RailwayCentre.com' - today's photo.

Oh right didn't realise it was on there, cheers. I had a drink with Colin just a few months back as it goes, he frequents a pub I also go to when I'm down in Dawlish. ;)

There was talk but was never confirmed. Seems like someone (not yourself) been jumping the gun and assuming rumour is fact.

I have also seen that date, although I can't remember where. I think it was one of the usual magazines, but might be wrong, and even if it was, I can't remember which. Given those publications are often guilty of, as you put it, assuming rumour as fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the explanation.

Amazing - That is some set of sidings! Look forward to seeing any photos with the 442's resident.
These are a few pictures. In one you might be able to see the front of a 47 through the undergrowth.

Just seen two survivors. 2408+2402 worked 1B47 this evening.

There are currently 4 units still in daily traffic

One pair works
1F82 EBN-LBG, ECS to Streatham hill & back for 1B47 LBG-BTN

The other does
1B09 BTN-LBG, ECS to Lovers walk then later 1B46 BTN-LBG & 1F83 LBG-EBN

This is due to change on 27th Feb when the Eastbourne sets change over to 377's so only one pair in traffic for 1B09/1B47.

The current plan is the last 442's in service will be 1B47 on 10th March

Yes it is planned to be 12 377, as will 1B09 when it changes.

The dates given are subject to Thameslink surrendering 377's back to southern

That's good. I seem to recall even 12 377 has fewer seats than 10 442, though of course the 377s come in many varieties of seating configuration.
