Edinburgh to Shrewsbury

I was wondering if anyone has any advice about finding a cheap fare from Edinburgh to Shrewsbury. Departing in the morning after 8am on Friday the 31st March and returning after 1600 on Sunday 2 April. The normal ticket sites show the cheapest fare being £129 off-peak return. Trainsplit does come up with a small savings at £105 (out 8:51, return 16:53). But I wondered if the extensive knowledge on this forum might produce an even better priced result?

Advance tickets are sold out on the 08:51. If you could make the 06:52 then you can get an advance single to Crewe for £26.00 at present, and then an advance single back for £26.00 if you choose the correct train.
An off-peak return Crewe to Shrewsbury is £18:80 with ATW. Hope this helps.

If you are willing to use a longer, slower route in order to save money then this option is available at the time of writing:

Friday 31 March 2017
£28.50 Standard Advance Single: 0812 Edinburgh - Manchester Pic 1128.
£13.50 Standard Advance Single: 1230 Manchester Pic - Shrewsbury 1337.

Sunday 2 April 2017
£13.50 Standard Advance Single: 1540 Shrewsbury - Manchester Pic 1715.
£28.50 Standard Advance Single: 1815 Manchester Pic - Edinburgh 2134.

Total cost £84.00.

Note that the 1815 Manchester Pic - Edinburgh is the last train on a Sunday, so it's necessary to leave Shrewsbury a little before 1600 if you choose to use this particular route.

tPE off peak return from EDB to PRE is valid any train and only £45,00, change at Preston and get an off peak return to SHR via Crewe for about £38.

This route saves an hour each way compared to the Manchester loop.
The return would be 1653 from Shrewsbury, Crewe 1725/1809, Preston 1851/1858, Edinburgh 2134.

I would just caution to check nearer the date for engineering works on the Sunday.
The Preston-Shrewsbury off peak return is valid via Manchester as well as Warrington.
The £129 through fare is also valid via Glasgow.
