Warrington West proposed new station is again on hold after missing out on £20m funding for new stations from the DfT. Rail minister Mr Maynard said Warrington Bid came 6th and will change there plans and bid again.

Flintshire, Cheshire county councils & Merseytravel will back proposals for a new Deeside Parkway Station at Deeside Industrial Estate and work together on a bid for funding in the next round of the station fund 2017/18. This will also support a 1/2hr service between Bidston - Wrexham using either cascaded 15x units or class 230 if they are successful in testing next year.

any idea on the exact location of the Deeside parkway station ?

The Wrexham-Bidston Rail Users' Association (WBRUA) has published a schematic plan for its proposed Deeside Parkway station.

This station would enable workers to reach the Deeside Industrial Park by train and provide park and ride facilities with easy access from the A548.

In the past five months the WBRUA has responded to five government / council consultations, making recommendations to improve use of the line, and has received cross party / cross border political support for its proposals.

The WBRUA now believes its campaign for a reliable and more frequent train service running from early morning until late evening between Wrexham and Bidston could be realised in the next few years, under the new operating franchise for the line, which is due to start in the autumn of 2018. The WBRUA sees Deeside Parkway as the next logical step after the improved service is introduced.

John Allcock, the Chairman of the WBRUA said: "The service on the Borderlands Line needs to get people from where they are to where they want to be at the time they wish to be there. The service has to be reliable so people know that they can depend on it.

"With the railway passing through the Deeside Industrial Park, one of the major employment sites in the region, Deeside Parkway station makes good sense. At the moment the large number of people working at the Deeside Industrial Park are forced to drive to work on heavily congested roads and work opportunities are not accessible to those who cannot afford to drive or who are unable to drive to work.

"Young people are at a particular disadvantage if they need to drive as the cost of running a car can represent a significant element of their salary which many may not be able to afford."

The proposed Deeside Parkway station would be approximately five minutes by train from Neston and Shotton and about 35 minutes from Birkenhead or Wrexham.
