There a food hatch/cafe type thing up in the booking hall now in what was the old travel centre. Might be worth a shot.

Agree, it's not great (certainly not a patch on the old Trinity Street building architecturally) - but the worst? I'm not sticking up for Bolton as such, as it could do with a lot of improvement - they certainly don't make enough use of the fine Victorian buildings at platform level, but...

Bradford Interchange?
Blackpool North?
Overpool?
Warrington BQ?
Wigan North Western?

I would say all these are more grim and depressing..

And I'm sure there are plenty more that I haven't yet been to..

No, I must take issue with Bolton TS being horrendous, grey, grim, and depressing. Stop being so kind, it's FAR worse than that, like the town that surrounds it.

Wouldn't be so bad but the corridor which is now the suffering room on P1/3 is used as a wind tunnel for aerodynamics by the Uni of Salford.

Bolron TS - It's the only place in the UK men can hang around public toilets without being suspicious - it's the only way to avoid hypothermia.

I don't know; at platform level the ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway station architecture is reasonably well preserved (and much better since the canopies were refurbished a few years back).

The 1980s station entrance is, I agree, depressing. The floor is vinyl for a reason...

It's got warm waiting rooms with seats, this makes it better than many many other stations to change at.

It would be a lot, lot better if it had basic facilities. A cafe that doesn't look like a works canteen and is open until late. A paper/sweet/drinks shop. With it being Bolton, even a betting shop wouldn't look out of place....

Might agree for Platform 4, allowing for the metal seats - but 1/3?? Worse than being under TPE's air con.

Noticed tonight on 1/3 the cafe on the platform was closed behind boards, but the seating area in front was being used as a waiting room (no heating, natch). Did see the little cubbyhole in the ticket area selling coffee. Nowhere to sit and drink it though, and I thought that area was supposed to be the link to the new bus station open 2016... 2017... 2018??

Has no-one any news about the re-use of these premises that are actually situated on the station platforms, rather than the unit currently operational.
