While pulling 90s off and putting them on the GA Mk3 sets I started to wonder about the built in tail lights on the Mk3s.

Did all Mk3s have them? Were they ever actually used as tail lights? And do they ever get used anymore?

Can't answer your other questions but I know that on the Night Riviera Mark 3s the tail lights are used on a nightly basis

The one's on the Mk4s are certainly used in the instance of a TIM failure and the 91 having to run round, so if a Mk3 set was running without a DVT on the back the tail lamps would need to be used. All Mk3b coaches had integral tail lamps, however of the earlier Mk3as only the SLEP vehicles had integrated tail lamps, so all other Mk3s woukd need a portable tail lamp fitted to a bracket if such a vehicle was at the rear of a set.

I seem to recall that the mk3b integral tail lamps were seldom used on the ICWC sets and a conventional oil lamp was usually placed on the bracket of the rear vehicle, then again it was only a matter of 3 years or so after the mk3bs were introduced before the first mk3 DVTs came into service.

Wrong, as stated above.

The Mark 3b build of FOs have them.

Are there Mark 3Bs other than the BFOs mentioned in the Night Riviera?
Thought it was just TSO, SLEP and BFO in the formations, and the SLEPs and TSOs were all 3As.

Whoops. Yes, you're right. I was thinking *all* Mark 3s, not just Night Riviera.

Apologies to the poster I replied to, too.

Presumably with the Mark 4s it is only the "blank" end of the TSOE that has the lights?

Can they actually be used on the GA stock, or are they disconnected?
