Colchester to St Pancras Intl

I'm having a "discussion" with a work collegue and need some help.
He's travelling from Colchester to St Pancras to catch the Eurostar to Paris.

He reckons he can get off at Stratford, get the DLR to Stratford Intl and catch a Javelin to St Pancras on a normal ticket, is this right?

I've given up trying to tell him the quickest and easiest route with be to Liverpool Street and then get the tube :-x

Thats the way it routes you...via Circle Line, DLR is not even an option !

I am not sure it is as simple/restricted as that.

But it all depends on what the OP means by a "normal ticket".

Colchester-Liverpool Street-KingsXStPancras involves train and tube, so would require a Colchester to Underground Zone 1 ticket, which for an Anytime day single (if travelling in peak hours) would be £32. This would be covered by a Colchester-London weekly/monthly/yearly travelcard, but not by a Colchester-London Terminals season ticket.

Colchester-Stratford-Stratford International-St Pancras would seem to be covered by a £32.90 anytime day single plus high speed ticket.

There doesn't seem to be much difference in journey time as between the two options.

Edit: another option covered by the £32 ticket would be Colchester-Stratford by train, Stratford-Highbury & Islington by London Overground, and then tube to KingsXStPancras.

Depending on time of day, might it a Colchester-Stratford ticket, then Contactless/Oyster Pay As You Go from Stratford Intl possibly be cheaper?

Unless he has mobility issues, I'd just recommend walking between stations in Stratford (you could pick up lunch for Eurostar while you're passing!)

That's a possibility - although only a 70p saving if everything is in the morning peak (£26.70 to Stratford, then £5.50 oyster/contactless from Stratford International to St Pancras on high speed).

Thinking aloud, does a ticket from Colchester to London International (CIV), help our OP? (Quite aside from all the benefits of the CIV protection in case the OP misses their booked E*) and would the "+ Any Permitted" that comes with it provide for the connection that the OP wants via Stratford International?

That seems a good suggestion. There are £32 tickets, valid via Liverpool Street or via Stratford and High Speed, it seems. And some £13.50 Advances valid via Liverpool Street, but available for morning peak trains. But the tickets to London International are valid only with the Eurostar ticket, which may be a problem if it is to be collected from St Pancras. Available on the Raileasy site.
