Reported fatality near Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. 2E26 1508 Weymouth to Gloucester involved and arrived Gloucester 141L after line re-opened. XC diverting via Severn Tunnel Jn and Chepstow where practicable. Some trains on Cardiff to Bristol route diverting via Bristol Parkway for passenger purposes, covering for cancellations.

Thoughts with driver of 2E26, family of man and others concerned.

If the line was handed back at 1958 as the article stated, it's a bit poor there were no northbound XC services from Temple Meads after 1930 before the 2200, but presumably there were no Birmingham train crew because of the lack of southbound services arriving at Bristol.

The train service doesn't get back to normal immediately a route re-opens. NRE and TOC Journey Checks usually say that a line has re-opened but things not expected to be back to normal until much later with residual delays due to trains and crews displaced. At that time of the night all the XC northbound crews from Bristol would be Birmingham or Derby crews so, as they were delayed getting down, there would be delays going north.

A strange working here. Unable to work out full story due to a short notice event, RTT didn't help. 1W56 1705 XC Manchester Picc to Cardiff Cen (via Bristol TM) terminated in the yet to be regularly used Platform 1 at Bromsgrove. What happens to the passengers is a mystery so and feedback would be very welcome.

Are you sure the service didn't turn back to new st? RTT reports it arrived at Barnt Green after Bromsgrove whilst open train times indicates an on time arrival at Barnt Green.

The 20 minutes later Plymouth service ran on-time to Cheltenham Spa, then arrived 50 late to Parkway.
