Where's your favourite fast food joint near a station? I'm talking non-big names but more kebab, chicken, burgers, fish and chips, Indian, Chinese, Thai, etc.

Mine is Crystal Kebabs near King's Cross. It doesn't look much from the outside and due to its layout there's normally a queue. However, their Chicken Donner, Lamb Shish and Lamb Kofte kebabs are to die for.

Elsewhere I was rather impressed with the chippy next to Mallaig station, and there's a great Caribbean takeaway (seats inside available) next to Salford Central station. The Lobster Pot chippy near Liverpool Central used to be a favourite when I lived over there in 2002-4.

Passage to India on Nantwich Road in Crewe is grand, as is Gurkha Oven in Spalding.

There's a KFC, Burger King and McDonalds not too far from Liverpool Lime Street which are convenient, although I don't really buy food from any of them very much these days because I'm trying to eat more healthy food, and simply because it's too expensive to have regularly. There's a café that opened up over the road from Lime Street station a few months ago, Key Lime Coffee, which is excellent. I'd fully recommend it to anybody who wants a hot drink and a bite to eat before or after their train.

The Chinese takeaway at Newton on Ayr is the best one I've come across in Scotland.

Mainly light meals like toasties, hot dogs and burgers mate. I had beans and chorizo on toast in there last week, it was really nice. The tea and hot chocolate is really nice too, but I haven't tried the coffee yet (although my future stepdad said it was nice). My Nan works there part time in the kitchen, so I usually pop in and have a cup of tea with her once every couple of weeks if I can.

I will be giving it a whirl.

Newcastle - Clayton Street Chippy. 5mins walk from Central. Come out the main entrance, cross over the road. Walk all the way up to the top of the lane(Pink Lane) between Subway and Greggs, past the Forth pub, also reçommended by the way, turn right and it's there. Fishquinn likes it. Too handy for me, after a trip.or visit to Central, The bus stop home is directly opposite.

Pelaw - Jaz n Jays. if your up trying to snaffle out Metro's, open between 11.30-2pm and 4.30pm- midnight. I'd highly recommend this place. Come out of Pelaw Metro station. Turn left, over the bridge and down to the bottom of the road, turn left again and about a 100yds is Jaz n Jays. They do lunch time and evening specials too and it's dead reasonable too. Also an Aldi, paper shop, a post office with a cash point, that won't charge you to draw your cash out, a chemist and chinese takeaway there, which is also recommended but its closed on a Monday plus it's only open on evenings.

I would say from observations that both do well from bashers and regular pax.

If your in Inverness and have time dont bother with anything on the station but go over to the bus station which has an excillent caffay.

Cant recall its name but the fast food joint near Harrow and Weeldstone is worth a go, had a great meal from there tother week.
