Every Christmas I travel to London from Cambridge over the holiday period.

Usually ticket restrictions are lifted and super off peak tickets are valid all day.
Checking online it does not seem to be the case this year.

Does anybody know what's happening this year

GTR didn't do the super off peak tickets on weekdays in the summer this year so maybe they don't feel so generous anymore.

They'll probably lift the evening peak restrictions.

Super Off Peak fares on Great Northern are only available for weekend travel on weekends and Bank Holidays as day tickets. Depending on how Christmas fell and the days you travelled on last year you could have simply travelled on a Super Off Peak ticket due to it being a weekend or bank holiday.

Where exactly are you travelling from? It could be that Super off Peak tickets are available for travel from stations further away from London.

I haven't seen any official announcements regarding ticket restrictions for the GN route so far this year.
In previous years on the GN route (inc FCC) the normal morning peak restrictions normally remained in place and evening peak restrictions were relaxed.
so Wed 28 is running a Saturday timetable on GN route with some extras in the peak, though assume the morning peak restrictions would still apply unless there is an announcement to say otherwise.

The Super Off-Peak tickets valid on both Great Northern to King's Cross and Greater Anglia to Tottenham Hale / Liverpool Street are valid at any time of day but at weekends only. WebTIS is offering these tickets on 27th December but I can't find any information about the lifting of the weekend restriction. The Super Off-Peak tickets valid on Greater Anglia to Tottenham Hale / Liverpool Street only are valid on trains arriving in London after 12:00 and have an evening peak restriction on the return from 1558 to 1902 (you can't return on trains leaving Liverpool Street at this time).

The Anglia one has no restrictions on 27th.

If you scroll down to the "Unpublished Restrictions" section on this page, you will see that the restriction code does not apply on Tuesday in the week starting 26th December.

Tuesday 27th is a bank holiday so super off-peak tickets would be valid on GN that day (& also Mon 2 January)
