Still they have managed to do upgrades to London Bridge and its on going and are working on Waterloo so it is possible. Obviously with timetable changes.

Current news from the Southern network:
- Signal failure due to an unexpected fault after planned maintenance (not related to the weekend blockade) at Purley may restrict movements if not resolved by the evening peak. For the most part it is being worked around at the moment.
- Victoria has been blocked with stock for the last hour or so, on-and-off, so trains are being held at stations on approach until platforms are clear, which in turn relies on crew... stops are being put on mainline services to try to clear metro overcrowding. Platforms are now gradually clearing - it's looking a bit more positive than it was.
Plus minor delays due to points failure at Cricklewood, AIUI.
"Not broadcast so as not to be the public's first choice of alternative" might be better.
It's not groundbreaking but, to prevent overcrowding, people should only be able to use "TOC X" if they do so on their own initiative or if advised face-to-face by station/onboard staff on an ad-hoc basis.
Good news if you support the strikes as I do. Tomorrow afternoon will be fun. I'm partially looking forward to the challenge.GTR lose the appeal so strikes go on as planned

Did another 313 decide to break down in the Portsmouth area this morning?
(1Z99 1008 Littlehampton to Portsmouth Harbour)

I dunno. It should be fairly clear that everyone from Dorking, Leatherhead and Epsom will be using South West Trains tomorrow. And I suspect a significant number of people from Reigate, Merstham, Salfords, Horley etc. will also try to. What other alternatives do these people have, exactly? Driving all the way to Hildenborough or Tonbridge is the only obvious answer - or use the 405 bus from Redhill. But then, where can they go when they get to Croydon?
I was affected by the Victoria disruption. There were no services leaving London Victoria for about 20 minutes while I was stuck at Clapham Junction. Two trains had to wait at Clapham Junction before a train could leave. I was tempted to take the train back to Wimbledon and get a tram to Croydon but then there was announcement to tell us that a Caterham train was on its way. An Ore service arrived first, and believe me, you would not have wanted to be on that train. There were people shouting and screaming telling passengers to move down and some people did not get on.Current news from the Southern network:

Out of interest. Will there be a gradual running down of service this evening like at Christmas eve?

Is that because they are expecting people not to be able to board the train anywhere else?GWR will be running their Brighton services tomorrow (13th) non stop from Havant to Brighton and vice versa.

The station staff aren't on strike. How about opening the stations for short period before GWR are due. Much like at Wembley Central with passengers only allowed on the platform shortly before the Southern train leaves.Internal Tyrell Check and external Journey Check both saying that the Southern operated stations on the route will be closed for the duration of the strike.
Tramlink to Wimbledon (SWT to Waterloo/District), Elmers End (Southeastern to Charing Cross/Waterloo East/London Bridge), Beckenham Junction (Southeastern to Victoria), X68 bus to Waterloo, Aldwych and Russell Square, West Croydon station will have 4tph on London Overground with connections to the Jubilee, H&C, District, Victoria and the DLR.

What is dangerous about doing that? If it is dangerous. How dangerous? More so than a train being DOO?
Every closed station can't need to send staff to Brighton?Yes, so there are a few options. But how easy will it be to board trains at via Canada Water at West Croydon, to Waterloo at Wimbledon and London Bridge at Elmers End? Imagine how long it would take using the 405 and X68 to get from Redhill to Waterloo!
Perhaps the station staff are being redeployed to Brighton to manage the crowds.
With the benefit of hindsight there was a total meltdown!Right now time to continue reading the thread!

I couldn't see many delays by 7 at East Croydon. Intrestingly there were 2 trains today that stopped at Clapham Junction. Both Gatwick Express. One left after 3 and the other after 5. Both also stopped at East Croydon. No others are booked to stop at these stations though. That was heading south. Nothing heading north however. Not sure why those did stop. I'm sure Gatwick Express / Southern / GTR had their reasons.I think the majority of passengers will still use East Croydon tomorrow and attempt to board the TL services.
Clapham Junction is another one to look out for tomorrow as a pinch point as passengers attempt to travel via Waterloo or Vauxhall for Victoria.
Inner South London will see an increase in the use of bus services and other TOC services from stations near to a Southern station and the tube. Balham LU for example will be even more busy.
As for your 405/X68 enquiry, it will be a long commute, but may be quicker than a non-strike day journey on Southern in the peaks under the current circumstances. The X68 is fast from West Norwood to Waterloo mind.

Incidentally the LO Crystal Palace extras are now in the journey planners.
Not forgetting all the stations to Eastbourne and all those to Portsmouth.Brighton + Preston Park + Hassocks...
?
Regardless, why would it be a good use of a staff shift for a handful of trains that its very unlikely anybody would be able to board, with a great many hours between them?
