What equipment is GWR-specific? (The only thing that comes to mind is ATP, but they don't have it, do they? They were intended to just use ETCS, were they not?)

As I understand it (and correct me if I am wrong), the class 332s weren't initially fitted with AWS as they had a special derogation to use ATP on the fast lines instead, which would suggest that it is all ATP to Heathrow.
They've always had AWS.
They are not fitted with TPWS, as they operate wholly on ATP fitted lines.

That was neither, and TPWS (as far as I am aware) is esentially a low-cost derivative of ATP.
Don't know where you're getting the "lack of available space" from especially since they are full-width cabs.
It wasn't down to space in the cab, it was down to the available space for the electronics
They need to have ATP, they have it on the left side of the cab next to the lighting controls, ATP data entry. It's a standard requirement for them, because ETCS and ERTMS is many years off yet from implication.
I had some memory that ETCS was meant to supplant ATP before the IEP introduction, but that's obviously totally wrong and seems to have never been planned. No idea where I got that idea in my head from! (I certainly knew ETCS wasn't going to arrive in time and that's been obviously years away for a long time, but the IEP procurement has gone on for so long!)
So how come there was a problem with the Class 387s not having ATP? (I mean in terms of substituting for the Class 360/2s on the ATP-equipped Heathrow branch)
I'm not sure what you mean here!
All trains that currently run into the airport tunnels must be fitted with ATP. 387s aren't, so they can't run into the tunnel.

Somewhere up thread it was stated that it was originally planned that the first sets would enter service in the summer, but the delays to the energisation of the test section between Tilehurst and Didcot have caused this date to be put back to Sep 2017. Autumn could mean as late as Dec 2017.

I know Wikipedia isn't a primary source, but it lists the axel load as 15t per axel - which makes them RA3 which is reasonably light, actually.And they are very very heavy trains as well.
Because the Class 387s are 110mph units, and I'm not sure what the highest allowed speed is without ATP being required.
