Tonight im travelling to Gatwick Airport and have an Any Permitted ticket.

I've asked a few times this week at the GatEx Gateline and have been told various things such as:

"You need an anytime Gatwick Express ticket"

"You won't be allowed on the train "

"You will get a penalty fare at Gatwick "

Which of these are true, I've tried to check online but I keep reading contradicting information "

None of the above. An 'Any Permitted' ticket from anywhere where you can pass through Victoria is valid on Gatwick Express.

EDIT: Dependent on the exact ticket, time restrictions may apply - but routing-wise you'll be fine on GX so long as your ticket is valid from/via London.

Oh ok, just my ticket is £15.50 I know the Gatwick Express tickets are £19.90 I asked at the ticket office if I could use it and I was told if I try to use it it wouldn't work the barriers at Victoria.

£15.50 is the Anytime Day Single route Not Gatwick Exp. I'm confused.

It is because of the ongoing RMT strike, on strike days, they charge less for any permitted, as all tickets are valid/accepted On gatwick express.

No I'm not. On Strike days they issue the £15.50 ticket as Any Permitted because all brand restrictions are lifted. If your ticket says that then it is definitely valid on Gatwick Express.

Edit: richardderby beat me to it!

Do you have a link to that? I don't want to be delayed at Victoria or fined at Gatwick.

Sorry to keep asking for clarification but from experience of reading these forums and personal experience staff seem to like making up their own rules.

The solution is to put the ticket through the ticket barrier and avoid all contact with the red jacket gestapo.

If your ticket says Any Permitted, it's Any Permitted. Price has no bearing on ticket validity and the GatEx Stazi should know this.

The Red Gestapo tell all sorts of lies. I wouldnt recommend believing a word of what they say. They are some of the most incompetent railway workers in the UK.

It's very simple, if the ticket says 'any permitted' you are free to use any service, including Gatwick Express. However, at the moment, due to the current issues, there are no restrictions with tickets being valid on Southern/Gatex/TL.

And don't worry about any auto announcements on the train. They are impossible to shut up. I was working a 12 car gatex 387 from Eastbourne to Brighton on Friday, and rather than tell folks about short platforms she was muttering about, first class, wrong tickets, porters at stations and telling folks in French and Italian they were on a Gatex to Gatwick. And would not shut up!!!!<(
