I'd probably have to say the class 66.

Globally, though, I'd have to say the SD70ACe. I thought they looked ugly, at first, but they grew on me after a while.

Sadly it probably is the 66 to be honest which one of these classes (apart from the single 59) managed to find great use in Europe.

This is a hard choice,

Class 37's the Best british diesel ever made and probley the best diesel around, But you say workhorse well they were in there days but now don't do as much so thats out,

57's don't know much about them apart from the Night Riviera sleeper train, Virgins 57 And WCRC 57601

60's britians most powerfull built diesel, I hear they are doing less work now what they use too could be wrong but I did hear that increased tonnage traffic, Iron Ore, Fuel Oil and Aggregates have seen regular haulage by the 60, which is preferred over the 66 as being slightly underpowered for this heavy traffic

66's well they work most freight workings and I could say they are the Workhorse of the 21st century.

67's are busy on charter trains, and sometimes the odd light freight movement and if it was a heavy movement they have to double header but as you said freight its a no even though I like them as a Modern diesel ;)

92's Well they are Britians most powerfull Loco I think ???? and I also ( Phoenix will hate me after this ) think they are the best Electric train. And man are they loud I could hear one in a moving 375 :o 8-)

So its between 66 & 92

I go for the Class 92

66's for me, not used to these 37/47 etc. even though the odd time ive seen them there amazing. i got into the hobby at the wrong time when all the old stuff was being withdrawn and there are few 'proper' locos around these days.

Oh yes, just don't expect anything else that runs on electric within 100 miles (rough estimate) of it to be moving :)

Or any platforms, canopies etc to be left unscratched? They're Berne-gauge sized.

Large gauging issue may be more of an problem

Well yes, that aswell, I didn't say it would be flawless did I?

Plus they are British, which was a reply about 92s being the most powerful British locomotive, so my point still stands.

Ok so if we don't count the Channel tunnels class 9 which look like a bigger verison off a Class 90 is the 92 most powerful British locomotive?

No sadly I have to admit (easily) that class 92's kick the Taps out of the entire AL fleet I mean as disscussed before they are almoist to the same specs as the euro 9's and well they are fairly mixed traffic as in they also can do passenger duties.
As for speed well apparently that soon may actually be raised to 90mph as a member of the class actually managed it for a long enough time to support upgrading the top speed although a few tweaks were done to achive this.

Well were talking about freight loco but yes class 91's are damn powerfull and still hold the record as the fastest loco's in Britain but the fact is they cannot haul heavy loads at great speed.
Although it has never been tried it is basic railway science that high speed loco's do not pull freight very well.
Hence why

Deltics hardly did it.
91's never do it.
I will fall over when I see a class 43 trying it.

Indeed, 91110 holds the UK loco speed record, but originally the plan was to use them as freight locos as well, running passenger in the day and intermodal trains at night, but the plans were abandoned and the 90s used for freight instead.

Hence why they have that second (blunt end) cab.

Were there ever tests as the only things I have ever seen a 91 pull is.....

Rakes of MK4's
The test set back in BR days
HST sets
and a rake of MK1's without DVT

After much agonising I voted for the 60, as my other choices are in storage.

class 56: look great, did their job without fuss until EWS stopped caring
class 58: updated 56, did their job without fuss until EWS stopped caring
class 66: like washing machines: boring but functional - from an operators POV I can see the attraction, just wish they had a bit more 'something' about them!

I did see a photo in a magazine of a GNER 91 from about 1999 doing a short freight on ECML somewehre in the North East.

It's not even used anymore!
