Cheapest Crewe or Stoke to Liverpool

ANyone know any better for an off-peak return Crewe to Liverpool at £17.60 (no railcard)? Seems a bit steep. Person lives between Crewe and Stoke but of course Crewe better as direct, but if any strange premutation exists she can easily board at either. Also, advances are OK but there don't seem to be any? Leave on 5 December returning on the 6th. Thanks.

Are they going and coming back on different days? £8.70 for an Off-Peak Day Return by Virgin Trains only. Otherwise that's the cheapest straightforward fare from Crewe.

I think this is for outward on the 5th and back on the 6th.

There are some £7 advances in each direction between Stoke and Liverpool: total £14.

Or an Alsager-Liverpool, or a Kidsgrove-Liverpool, offpeak return is £16.10

It can be done for £12 return, assuming specific trains only (no refunds) is not a problem.

£3 Northern advance for Stoke or Crewe to Manchester and £3 Northern advance from Manchester to Liverpool. Repeat in reverse. Journey time approx 2h.
