I did read, somewhere (and I can't remember, for the life of me, where it was now), last week, that the fleet will be eventually be painted in DB red livery. I, for one, am going to miss the modified Wisconsin Central livery.

I also think that DB Schenker will repaint the fleet very quickly - mainly due to image.

I don't think anything is but various places have referred to them as Capitalstars.

Just seen my first DB Schenker (UK) sign today

All standard DB liveries are red with grey / white trim like THIS . Obviously it will need some form of yellow front end for over here and the train spotters amongst you will have to pray that they make the numbers a bit bigger if they do go for a version of this livery

However, DB are often quite keen to retain some locos in historic liveries and have even been known to repaint the odd one or two, such as THIS SHUNTER .

It seems a little odd changing the name of a rail company in the UK from English, Welsh and Scottish Railway to what literally translates as German Railways (not sure on the translation of Schenker).
Especially since DB originally said that they wouldn't be rebranding EWS :???:

Whats the problem here, is DB (Horrible Name!!) going to repaint all the stock? EWS' original owners didn't repaint all the stock, even before the order of 66s, and there is a still a lot to be repainted.

Exactly - it would be both a time consuming and expensive practice to repaint all locomotives, as EWS experienced - they repainted locos after they had been to the works - and some still have'nt been done! So I think it will be a long, long time till we see all DB locos in full corporate livery.

DB Schenker livery will be more akin to 60040.

"Allegedly" there will be a 67 and 66 repainted in time for the rebranding. Numbers have been quoted but whether they will stick remains to be seen.

As for any heritage repaints, this is presumably down to management in the UK to suggest and agree.

Schenker was a big, German, DB-owned forwarding and logistics company, which they sold off and later re-inherited. When they got it back, they put their whole freight sales and marketing operations into it and re-branded themselves as DB-Schenker. I'm quite sure the EWS fleet will eventually be repainted into DB red livery.

The main reason for their buying EWS was to get their hands on EWS's (Euro Cargo Rail's) operating license in France. I can't see SNCF Fret (or whatever they're calling themselves today) being very happy about this development.

Well it will be interesting to see how this pans out. Its probably the best thing that has happened to them so I'm a little more optimistic about what DBS's approach will be, in terms of the way our German counterparts like to operate. Just pondering on what the prospects could be.

EWS has been owned by DB Shenker since 2007, they're just rebranding.

I already know that but what I mean is that since its now officially DB, it would be interesting what could entail, not regards to the livery (although to be honest I will be glad to see the back of EWS) but in terms of what other changes there could be.

Why would they make any other changes if they're only rebranding? They would've made changes when they took over if they were going to.

I don't think there's any need to shoot people down. Changes don't happen overnight. If they were going to make changes they would probably do it alongside a rebrand, to maintain their new image!

EWS (oh sorry - DB!) own / lease many hundereds of locomotives and thousands of wagons which are used constantly - expect no big changes to the fleet yet! Considering EMT have about 25 158s, they ahve repainted 1 in a year and a bit... speaks for itself

But since they weren't originally going to rebrand EWS, surely they'd make the changes when they took over because they wouldn't have known they were going to be rebranding it

Because the Germans love grids. Just not the romanian ones so much. Therefore 60s are being sold off to Poland to fund grid overhauls.

Same here i liked EWS but now we have DB Schenker ( Dickbreath as my mate calls them) guess we have to move on, wonder what one off the Royal skips would look like with DB Schenker logo.

At least my model railway will stay EWS

One other thing the remaining 37 fleet will they have DB on them?

Is it not ironic that one of Britain's largest railway operators is owned by the German government, making it effectively a nationalised industry again ?

I think you will find that our largest freight operator, one franchised TOc and an open Access TOC are partially owned by the German government through DB.

SNCF the french operator own a chunk of Keolis (who are partners with Go-Ahead in Southern & South-eastern, and LM; and partner with First in TPE)

Nedrailways is a partner (with Serco) in Merseyrail and Northern Rail and is partly owned by the Dutch government.

Equally, we could argue that DRS is state owned...

Thus a large chunk of the UK rail market is run by state owned companies, but these companies are often run in a very commercial way.
