Manchester to Glasgow journey help please

I'm a disabled passenger need to get to Glasgow on Sunday 4 th Dec , due to my flight , at 00-15am I can get airport train to Manchester Piccadilly at 1-25 am , found a virgin train at 6-30am and arrive back in Glasgow 6 hrs later surely there must be a quicker way ,also cheapest fare I could get was £70' help please, thanks in advance ,david

What are you starting? Are you flying in to Manchester? Then travelling to Glasgow? Is that right? and then returning?

Really, you need to give us a little more to work with!

If you're arriving at Manchester in the middle of the night that's a problem.

So you arrive at Manchester Airport at 00:15 on the morning of Sunday 4th Dec?

If so, that will definitely be a problem as there are only buses post midnight from Manchester Airport on a Sunday early morning and during the day on Sunday there isn't anything direct to Scotland at all

Also do you have any railcards?

Yes I have a disabled rail card , just need a one way ticket to Glasgow, but I find it disgraceful that no trains run to Glasgow on a Sunday morning , could I head towards the east coast ,head to edinbrugh then on to Glasgow, sorry my journey starts at Manchester 4th Dec (Sunday) at 1-25 am, david

I think you've hit in an unfortunate weekend as it looks like there are no through trains even to Preston that day. I'm guessing engineering work or some such

it does look like it would be a nightmare of a journey as there seems to be engineering works. you can get a ticket for £24 but leaves the airport at 0845am and involved 3 changes arrive into glasgow just after 1315

I have took a look at national express coaches and these options may be better as there direct and giving the time the train arrives into glasgow is the same as the coach the coach would be a better bet and cheaper.

coaches from national express re as follows

Depart Manchester Airport 0055am Arrive Glasgow 06:20 £34.50 (direct service from MAN airport and would get you into glasgow before the train would depart manchester

next coach:
Depart Man Airport 0700am Arrive GGow 13:30 £15.00 (direct service and would get you into glasgow more less same time as the first available train and save you £55)

just a option over the train and the coaches are direct as well

There is engineering work between Manchester Piccadilly & Salford/Eccles that weekend, for Ordsall Chord construction work.

I believe there will be some services to Edinburgh running from Manchester Victoria, and then running via Bolton rather than Wigan, as there has been over the past couple of weekends with similar engineering work.

An odd choice of word- looking at timetables there's not usually trains (though there are buses) in the small hours of Sunday morning from Manchester Airport, and weekends, especially Sunday daytime morning, are preferred for engineering works.

Looks to be the case looking on RTT. Either that or catch a train to Warrington Central and walk across to Bank Quay for a Scottish VT

Your 0630 journey IS via the East Coast (and bus as far as Leeds) which explains the lack of Advance fares.

I suggest booking a hotel room near the airport (one with 24hr reception obviously as you'll arrive at 0100+) and then catching the tram through to Victoria around 0900 (I assume that's running!).

That way you can take advantage of the reasonable trains and Advance prices available (the fares shown are undiscounted so you're talking £20-25) leaving mid morning from Victoria and getting you to Glasgow by 1330.
