The generic rejection for me as well, my initial reaction to test was that I done good as well. Never mind, after the process so far I'm ever so slightly relieved. Good luck to those still in with a shot.

I'm unqualified but have passed psychometrics and I'm through.

Who did you pass your psychometrics with, I've passed mine also, I just hope the scores are high enough for Vtec.

Out of interest are there any qualified train drivers out there who applied and have been asked to attend the assessment centre? I have spoken to four mainline drivers who each received the "thanks but no thanks email".

If you had read back even a couple of pages you would have found out there are lots of qualified drivers going to assessment days

Not exactly, I have a house in the midlands south of Doncaster, by road I am within an hour from Leeds and Doncaster, which are my preferred locations. For the past few years I have worked in London and rent a place in Reading where I stay during the week.... hence the FGW attempt.

Considering I don't think I particularly excelled in the online test (missed three I think) I'm extremely grateful for getting through to the assessment centre. My CV/covering letter must have swayed it for me as I can't imagine they've based their decision solely on the sifting test. Now to start preparing for the assessment day!

No pal I think you just have a chip on your shoulder

If they took the test there is a reason why everyone should take it to show whether or not they have the ability to pass it, and if they did then clearly passing the test previously means nothing

And if they didn't there is a reason everyone should take it so everyone gets a fair chance to proove their ability

Obviously I'm fortunate to be in the job already but a rejection is never fun for anyone.....

It said on the email that I and others received that "as you are qualified you do not need to do tests" Did you query it with them?

And agreed it is not, but we are very lucky that we are in the grade and other opportunities will come up

But remember according to one poster just because you are qualified does not
mean that you are good at it :roll:

No, I've just followed the procedure in this case as it hasn't sent me dodgy emails that some have had. Thanks for the info skinnydave and I'll sleep on it. I'm not desperate for this right now but longer term it would be good.

I've kept out of the war on words on the first 100 pages here, but yeah some of it has been laughable.

I personally accept this is a numbers game of 15000 to 78 so odds aren't great for anyone.

What I will say to some people on here is: I've failed this stage of the process so in the eyes of a fair few people on this thread I'm not good enough to be a driver.

Well all I can say is this: the difference in driving a train at 125mph is only marginally different to driving it at 100mph, so if you think I or my other qualified colleagues who haven't got through this process are not good enough then please don't get on my train as it barrels through southern England at 100mph.

Got my rejection email as well, I'm glad its over to be honest! Not to say I am not disappointed but the job I really want is the depot driver one with EMT, so when that one hopefully comes back around I will put all my efforts into that one.

For someone who has been trying to become a train driver for ages this has been a good/disappointing year, the way I see it is this time last year I hadn't had any interview experience for this job now I have had two interviews (got through one but for technical reasons couldn't take the job) and passed all the psychometric tests. Even getting to do the online tests for VTEC was sort of a plus. I'm certainly hoping this time next year I will have good news to share.

I`m also out, what is weird is that, while at work last night somebody higher up than me asked me "have you heard owt yet?" regarding the job and i told him i had just been knocked back, by the end of the shift i was being trained up for a new promoted role.

Its a role i have done before in the past, but my department was closed down and broken up, splitting the 14 man team into smaller chunks that other departments would look after.

To be honest i would rather be a train driver as i am looking for change anyway, but i`ll take it as a second place prize.

This has not dissuaded me from the role though, i will be keeping my peepers peeled for future openings, the Tyne and Wear metro may be an avenue i look towards, although i always tend to brush that off as i have a real issue with doing the job my father used to do :/ (weird i know!)

I've been trying for 10 years now. And all I've ever had is two online tests.
It's a shame they don't give feedback cos if like to know what do they want from people.

I think you'll find they were sent the tests in error. They were unsuccessful because of their applications. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with how they scored in the test that they shouldn't have been sent in the first place.
The tests that were done in error weren't even looked at.

Have you realised that there are two different jobs being recruited for here?
A qualifed driver needs a fraction of the training of a trainee. They will know how many of the latter they can support, both in terms of training resources and cost, plus the added monitoring required after qualification. The first sort will have been into a qualified and unqualified pile. Two different jobs. One selected based on performance to date and attitude. The other on potential.
