Anyone live in Station Road?

Nice to know that lots of people in towns and villages without a railway service are reminded of the possibility though...

I lived in Station Road SW19 2LP for a number of years. There was no station, it had closed many many moons before. The station was Merton Abbey. The track-bed is now the Merton Relief Road, the station is under the roundabout outside Sainsbury's Savacentre.

Not quite Station Road, but for a period of time I lived in Station Street, referring to the long demolished Loughborough Derby Road station closed in the 1930s.

no - i am fairly certain that Fencehouses was the closest station to Houghton le Spring although the NCB had a very wide network of lines serving the collieries in the area

It would be strange to not ever having a railway station at all. There must be loads of roads with railway names in places where the station/railway has long gone, never having one at all would be very weird.

In the middle of a triangle formed by Trimdon ( Colliery of that ilk) , Hutton Henry and Wingate - wild west territory up that way. Not recommended for off comers and southerners.

In a part of Portsmouth, called Copnor there is a Station Road, from what I understand a Station was planed when the area was developed in the late 19th/ early 20th Century, but the railway companies back off, due to the development of the Town (later Citys) tramways!

Chobham has a station road, but never had a railway although a tramway was planned but never built.

I don't live in Station Road but:

• The first house I considered buying was in Station Road, Dunblane. I didn't, because I felt that the price was expensive for somewhere that'd need a few things doing... it was low-£30,000s in 2001 or 2002, so with hindsight ridiculously cheap.
• I drive along Gilmerton Station Road fairly frequently, as it's the quickest route between my house and the western half of Edinburgh's city bypass.

One of today's saddest sights is a pub called "The Station" and both the station and railway have long gone.
Seen one near White Coppice - is it still open as a pub, does anyone know? Not been that way for years, but lovely walking/drinking territory!

I find it a bit surprising, near where I live there are 2 Station Roads, but 7 Church Roads.

I live in Chapel Street; there are four such served by my local Post Office depot: the problems I've had over the years with this, including the DVLA arbitrarily amending the correct details on a car purchase and sending the log book to someone else!

Well at the end of my road is 'Lower Station Road'. There is a 'Station Road' it just doesn't have the station on it...

The Station Street in Newport (there isn't a Station Road) is nearer the entrance to the station now that it's moved than it was before they moved it!

There used to be a Station Approach which lead to the old station building, but that's been replaced by Queensway, which runs virtually parallel with the tracks.

Further up the valley, what Google tells you is Station Street, Newbridge is actually in Pentwynmawr. Although this is just a few miles away from Newbridge itself, there doesn't seem to have been a station there. The current Newbridge Station (which was built in 2008 on the site of the old one (1850 - 1962)) is on High Street, Newbridge.
