Hi,

I've noticed that on 150/1s, the exterior door closest to the cab is similar to a slam door, whereas on the 150/2s, all exterior doors are sliding ones (see attachments). Does this mean that there is no staff corridor behind the cab on the 150/2s?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Both types have a cross-vehicle corridor called a vestibule. The significant difference (to passengers) between the two types is the door between the vestibule and the passenger saloon. On a 150/1 this door requires a key to open it from the saloon side thereby making the vestibule a staff-only area. On a 150/2 this door is a normal door, though it is fitted with a lock that does not require a key to open it from the vestibule side: most traincrew have a preference for locking this door behind the active driver's cab as the passenger door controls for the external door are rendered inoperable when the driver's desk is active. It also follows that a 150/2 has a lockable cab door, again fitted with a "breakthrough" lock from the cab side whereas a 150/1 cab door has no lock. This is why when a 150/1 is coupled to another unit the external vestibule doors adjacent to the other unit should also be locked.

When two /2 work together passengers can and do use those doors by the intermediate cabs. Some of the regulars know this and make full use of them on the 1721 Buxton service at Manchester Piccadilly - it will be much more likely to get you a seat. I've even stood in this area on some occasions.

Similar situation down in the west, where the intermediate doors will be in use when coupled to another unit. I was heading down to Sandy Park for a chiefs match a few weeks back, 143619+150216 turned up. We managed a rather impressive 12 people in that space behind the cab with the guard in the 143.
