I have no idea, Darlo. If she is, then that's a good enough reason for using her, I suppose.

I'm prepared to be proven wrong, so if Ms Windsor can do the announcements while avoiding any urge or instructions to lapse into Carry On, Peggy Mitchell or bingo advert mode, then I'll be absolutely delighted.

As most 'actresses' and 'actors' in soaps, she can only do one voice which is her own. There are very few Londoner voiced actors who can act in anything other than their own accent. David Jason was passable (remember Open all Hours) but Michael Caine always sounds like Maurice Micklewhite (think Zulu).

I am pleased that our recent trip to Bristol TM on Wednesday was sans BW's voice in any shape or form. :D

You should hear him in The Swarm... In the middle of the American desert, in a nuclear power plant and in a full London accent he says "If we're not careful, this scientific installation will be taken over by beeeeeeeeeeessssss!"

Jokes aside, has there been any reaction/viewpoints from Windsor doing the announcements?

Barbara Windsor has been recording announcements and travelling in the cabs of trains making live announcements on the Underground network for at least four years now, in the run up to, and on the day of, London Poppy Day.

Somewhere, not in London

Why is it, one wonders, "London" poppy day?

What's wrong with calling it what it is...?
