Drivers Assessment at DB Schenker.

I have recently looked into taken the Drivers Assesment privately at DB Schenker in Doncaster. Are the tests taken there the same has the ones required by Northern?

The reason I ask is because DB Schenker test you on report writing in addition to the other tests you have to do and I don't think Northern do.

If that is the case it seems I could be risking failure being tested on something Northern don't require.

My advice is which will go against alot of blokes on here is to not bother.

Before you get to any assessment you have to overcome the application and in my opinion you may as well save the money and have possible employer foot the bill so to speak

The tests are a national standard for the whole industry, however some companies (not sure on northern) require a higher pass grade than the national standard.

As said before in this forum there is no point in really dong the tests privately as any potential employer will advertise for positions knowing that the majority of applicants will need to take the tests, so why pay for it when they will put you through at their expense?
The other issue is that the results only last for 2 years, so if you don't manage to secure a position in that time you'll be back to square one and out of pocket

I recently sat the tests at Doncaster, as I am currently going through the application process with Northern, who didn't require me to do the Report Writing test.

Can I ask out of curiosity, how much does it cost to sit these tests?

You can sit as many tests as you like but it won't help your application. Don't be conned by paying for it under the guise of a "drivers assessment" as it is, literally, meaningless.

Just look on this forum for what is expected, that's all you need to do.

I along with others on here sat the test privatley at Donny and are now drivers!
I sat mines at same time as Northern lads with only difference most of them were sent home of they failed a section wheras if you paid for it you could complete the whole process whether you failed a part or not.

I do agree with advice that you still have to work very hard on your application to get through. If you sit tests privatley you may still have to sit TOC specific tests so its up to you.

Same story as above. Getting nowhere, paid up, next two TOCs I applied to took me through to interview and I now work as a driver. Certainly don't think it's as meaningless or pointless as many suggest

DBC centre do testing for some of the TOCs there will be core assesments that the TOCs require albeit different pass standards and they may add their own in there. When it changed to new process DBC stopped doing them for a while privatley but have started again recently.
When I was there the only difference was that if you were a private candidate you got to sit all aspects of it rather than get told to jog on if you fluffed it. Other than that you are not treated any different to a TOC sponsored candidate doing the tests. My structured interview was very hard going she was all nice until ahe stared the questioning and I felt like I was getting clobbered!
It was the best money I have ever spent though
