I agree with the need for ticket barriers but they really have to sort this out at Lime Street. The wide exit barrier for people with tickets that won't go through the ticket barriers often has no one manning it. I'm frequently left stood there like a wet lemon waiving my Trio hoping someone will let me out. I don't blame the gate staff of course (Although I once got a mauling off the gate staff after a Northern RPO waived me over to the entry gate because oddly enough he couldn't let me out of the exit).

I do hope the 'Trio' you stand there waving doesn't consist of what I'm thinking! :D

Could I suggest you contact Merseytravel and get them to prioritise putting trios on to the Walrus card. It is clearly their plan but if you make the point of how inconvenient this is for you and the gafe staff and it may just shake them into action.

That isn't the purpose of the latest wide barriers, they have the same ticket readers as the rest off the gateline, they are for people with luggage or pushchairs etc.

Staff can let you through a normal barrier if your ticket doesn't work.

Mate I'm not simple, if there is no one on the manned barrier (without someone manning it) what is the point of going and standing by one of the unmanned ones. I think I mentioned that the one time I went to the barrier to get on to the platform (Whilst trying to get off) I was sent back to the one to get off. :D

The staff aren't exactly miles away though are they? It's not as if it's like Bham New St with loads of barriers.

Mate there are 2 wide manned barriers which I have to use with my Trio ticket because a big piece of cardboard in a plastic sleeve won't go through the machines on the narrow ones. One wide barrier is for in, one is for out. The thing is there is always someone on the in barrier with a queue and frequently no one on the out barrier. Stop me when this starts to sink in. I am not thick. I am not looking for problems where there are none. At the same time it isn't the end of the world. :D All I am saying is that with 8 automated barriers you need more than one person on them (At least at peak times) or things rapidly get out of hand.
