Hi all,

Does anybody have a list of locos and units that are currently/regularly kept at Willesden? I'll be passing soon, so I'd like to know what to look out for.

Thanks :)

There are various locos at Willesden Depot.

You will almost certainly see Anglia Railways 86246, the 86 which is being stripped for spares.

Also there will be Caledonian Locos 87002, 86101 and 86401.

Network Rail's 313121 may also be there if you call that a loco :)

Thanks,
Ross

401 is in Scotland. 101 and 002 are either at WB, between WB and Euston or in the shed at WN. You're not likely to see much during the day aside from 246.

Thanks for that. Seen pictures of 86246 there, but sometime the 87 and other 86s are out on services. Let's just hope that they are there...
Last time I went, the shed doors were open, so I also got a few 92s :D

Yesterday 92010 was parked up close to the tracks. Also a lot of the 172 LOROL units due to the GOBLIN being shut. Also look out for 09007 numbered Dxxxx

In terms of 92, I do believe 92010 is based there at present, as is 92014 but that is now in C/S hauling duty so you won't see much of it at Willesden. 92043 is also based there but has re-entered traffic after GBRf 15, I believe on 6L48 (Garston to Dagenham). If 6L48 is diesel hauled now once again, my best guess to look for 92043 would be Willesden T.M.D. or maybe Dollands Moor.

What a boring place Willesden is nowadays! When I first visited in the late 1970's on a Saturday you could see plenty of class 25s, 81s, 85s, 86s, and 87s not to mention 501s and 310s.

I saw 92043 being hauled by a 90 from Willesden to Crewe the other day, so it may not be there

Very true... but at least it still exists which is more than be said for most London depots... but I think this is a topic for a thread of its own

I reckon 92043 may end up in C/S colours, it's proved it's reliability thus far with the recent railtour and freight ops. Maybe it might head to Loughborough Brush from Crewe soon for modifications.

For the past 2 - 3 weeks 92 014 has been on the Glasgow service, normally working northbound on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights. That doesn't mean it will stay on that pattern, of course, but it does indicate that it is likely to be around at weekends for any attention required and probably visible at Wembley during Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Now I've posted that, it'll be on a completely different pattern this week won't it?!

Why is at Ilford? What will work The Cathedrals Express out of Euston next Saturday?

A good question, this. Looking on RTT, a loco is scheduled from Willesden TMD and there is also one scheduled from Southall at about 6 in the morning then scheduled to leave for Carlisle. Any idea what these will be, since I'll be there?

From experience, the Southall one is a 47 (Last time it was 47746) hauling the ECS to Euston, and the Willesden T.M.D. is for 86259 LE move to Euston. Most likely scenario, 86259 will run LE from Ilford to Willesden this week in preparation for Saturday's railtour. If that isn't possible, a Carnforth to Southall move will occur with an LE to haul the tour on Saturday.

Great, thanks for that. :D Hope I get to see it then

I see Saturdays train is booked to run fast line - is that indicative of something more modern/faster in charge, or just because it's an early start and there is a path available?

Could be down to engineering works on the slow lines at that time in the morning, but doubt it's due to a change in traction. Should still be 86259 and until Friday evening, I will be lead to believe that.

A Light Engine turned up at Ilford E.M.U.D. yesterday from Wembley Euro Freight Ops Centre, that could be to take 86259 back home later this week or today perhaps. Nothing on RTT just yet for the move but it could be VSTP.

Very rarely any engineering work on the south end of of the WCML at that time on a Saturday morning, that is the booked path for the train. If the 86 isn't available then it needs a pair of 47s to keep time.

That was 47815, both it and 86259 were still at Ilford this morning; I'll check again tomorrow morning if I remember!

Was heading up to Carlisle this morning.

My apologies, I thought it had done the railtour last weekend. Well 86259 will return to Willesden TMD today after a brief visit to Acton Lane Recep Sdgs.

To Acton Lane Recep Sdgs:

And back home to Willesden TMD:

Weirdly, the ECS + Diesel remains at Acton Lane Recep Sdgs until Monday morning, maybe Southall is unstaffed on Sundays?

That's good, thanks. Haven't seen 86259 this weekend, so I really want to see it. I'll be passing Willesden Junction at about 5 this evening, so I hope it won't be in the shed.

Did you manage to see it or did they tuck it away pretty quickly?
