I just wish it was the case that Oyster or contactless is cheaper at all times, father than the current situation where there are periods where paper tickets are cheaper. It can be confusing. Perhaps it doesn't really matter as it's all fairly cheap anyway.
I do wonder if at some point the abolition of paper tickets might be considered, with outboundary day and period Travelcards available on some form of smartcard ticketing only. I would imagine TfL could save a fortune if they were able to remove the mechanical magstripe ticket readers from barriers at the vast majority of stations, other than perhaps about 10 key interchanges with the mainline for cross-London ticketing.
