Cancellation of 625 has gone through VOSA today.
Surely at least part of it will be reregistered by somebody? Would the council really have no buses to Severn Beach Mon-Sat (other than the 623...) especially as the new 628 Sunday contract has just started

STL have most likely given up on it!

It does need a good looking at...

The irregular timetable doesn't help (gaps between departures from Southmead range from 25min to 1h55min).

Neither does the slack in the timetable (27 mins off peak for the 3.1 miles from Southmead Hospital to Parkway via the Ring Road, *reducing* to 25 mins on one rush hour journey).

The lack of publicity.

No Saturday differential timings, I could go on...

Regularly there is a bus parked waiting time on Southmead Road, in both directions - at the second stop after leaving the terminus (Charborough Rd) the drivers will stop for 5-10 minutes.

I can see it getting cut back or reduced to 2 hourly again, which would be a big shame, I remember the days of the 625 and 680, Until they got merged, frequency increased and Wessex added newer low floor bus.

I think the most sensible thing would be to get rid of it serving Patchway, just going straight down highwood road instead, then an hourly frequency should be able.

Although this would leave some of Patchway with no service, unless you change the 82, which might be possible with some of the new roads being built for metrobus! (To keep it's frequency to hourly)

severnside should never have been given it. the original timetable was stupid - 90 minute trips with no turn around time at either end. they are the lowest end of the market in south glos, manely given the hopeless stuff that nobody cares if they make a mess of it.

625 serves patchway to link it to parkway at the demands od local councillers, as did 580 after it got split from 581. 625 as severn beach to parkway was a sensible propasition, doubling back to southmead was just dumb. if they can expect people to change buses to get to westbury or the centre, then they can change at cribbs for a service to southmead.

I confess I don't know the 625. Would it make sense to run it Severn Beach to Cribbs to Southmead and not serve Parkway?

Just wondering if something has to go, is that the better option? Just in case people on here use it regularly and have a view

Or just Severn Beach to Cribbs Causeway where connections can be made just about anywhere? I think you should be able to manage an hourly frequency with one vehicle as the 625 takes 25 mins to do the trip.

The Ralph Allen School service I believe consists of the 20R. This runs schooldays from Lower Bristol Road Sainsburys at 0750, via Odd Down and Combe Down to Ralph Allen School.

There was an interesting note on the RA School website.
It stated 'Urgent transport message to all students who catch 20R-Message received from BANES Transport Section.'

'Based on the experience of last week we need to make an urgent further change advancing the departure of the morning 20R by 10 minutes from 19 September. This will position both double deck buses in front of the smaller 20A that starts in Weston (the Bath one!) and maximise the benefits of the capacity available.

My comment is the service must be pretty lucrative if it needs two deckers.

Wessex had a ex Arriva London VDL Decker (LN12LDN?)on the X14 this afternoon. It still has the London Buses/Arriva posters and stickers inside and is in Arriva livery. The only exterior reference to Wessex that I noticed is in the legal details right at the rear.

40211 LJ04JDN more likely.

I thought those would have been repainted over the summer

So reading the VOSA post earlier about the cancellation of Crosville 101, is that the end of the Crosville Flyer or is it altered/renumbered?

Also does anyone know what happened to the 42? I was surprised to see Wessex taking over, did they win the tender or something or did Abus pull out? They had 2 or 3 dedicated Solo's for the 42 P&R, not sure what's happened to them now?

From what I gather Wessex took the 42 over commercially. I think at least 1 solo found it's way on to the 672.

The 42 was put up for tender.

Abus retained it and were as surprised as anyone when Wessex then decided to register it commercially.

At the same time, Bugler surrendered the main 672 contract with Abus picking it up with one of the now redundant Solos as has been mentioned.

Whilst Wessex aren't my favourite, this is a positive move in many ways. People might even use it!

Pity it isn't going to the hospital anymore. For me, the most annoying thing is that in a space of four months, the top end of Southmead Road will have gone from 6 buses each hour (X18, 77, 82, 501, 502, 625) down to just 2. Even in the pre-new-hospital days it was never that poor a service.

The re-routing to UWE means that Little Stoke goes up from 2 to 3 each hour to UWE.

Ironic that they lost the Sunday service, but have gained the weekday one!

The problem around these parts is that it is impossible to serve all the traffic centres with every route, what with
- Southmead Hospital,
- SGS Filton,
- Airbus,
- Rolls Royce,
- Cribbs
- Aztec West,
- Parkway Station,
- SGS Wise/Abbeywood School/BTEA/City of Bristol College Engineering Centre,
- UWE

Think the hospital would have been a better terminus point than UWE to be honest.

Is the 625 commercial or council funded out of interest?

Think Severnside have a shortage of drivers.

My next bus app has a message on it saying "Service 625 journeys 16:30, 17:45, 19:00 and 20:15 will not run today due to operational issues". That's 2 of the last 3 round trips not running!

Their twitter has a conversation that states that tomorrow and Friday for the journey at "9 from Cribbs" - presumably the 2015 mentioned above - "The run is covered on Thursday and Friday however we cannot guarantee this due to issues beyond our control that may occur"
