Arrived at London Bridge this morning having booked tickets to find huge queue at TVM's told by staff in pink hi vi's just to show ticket ref to barrier staff, l was cheerfully let through with no problem. As I had booked returns and conscious of problems that can occur l noticed an excess fares window where my tickets were issued. I wonder what the consequences of only having a booking reference might have been.

GTR staff have been notified of TVM ticket collection problems at London Bridge, so they should be aware that some people will only be travelling with booking references, with permission of gateline staff and associated contractors (those in the pink vests were probably agency customer service staff working for the Thameslink Programme, or TfL). I'm glad the excess fares window was able to be useful in this way, though, as that is certainly much better. I'm actually not sure if Southeastern have been briefed but I would tentatively assume so, given it would probably have been their ticket office reporting the issues in the first place.

My daughter travelled to London from Liverpool South Parkway last week, where the only ticket machine was out of action. The booking office staff gave her a credit-card sized card entitling her to travel with her booking reference only but asking her to get her (return) ticket as soon as possible from a working machine. Merseyrail station, Northern machine, London Midland service.
